22 Tubes. Is that enough?
Just got the Trace Elliot TVT9 preamp today. I'm going to pair that with the Mesa Boogie Strategy 500 and see what magic happens. Lookout! |

| | | | Cool looking rig.
I used to use a Trace GP11 in the loop of a Bass 400 and man was that a good combination.
I used the Pre of the Boogie into the Trace, set levels not to clip then into a compander and on to a Hush II something or other. I could blast the building down. Sounded good too.
I did have a ground loop between the Trace and the Boogie but worked that out.
Never seen that Trace Pre, bet it sounds good. |

Is it safe to use a guitar preamp for bass amplification? I also have a Trace AH500-12 and I wonder if I can use the TVT9 pre into the effects return and bypass the AH500 preamp.
The TVT9 has a really high gain overdrive and good clean tone as well. The combo uses a separate 80watt poweramp located a the bottom of the cabinet. |

You can get some very, very cool overdriven bass tones out of it, although the lowest notes are somewhat lacking. If you blend it in with some clean bass signal, though, it makes for a killer bass overdrive.
Nice score! I bet it pairs up nicely with that Strategy 500! I used to own a Strategy 400, but I sold it before I got the TVT9, so I never had a chance to try them together.
Here are some shots of my TVT9:
