250W Head with a 400W Cab I'm looking into upgrading my rig and I'm a little confused. If I run a 400 watt 8 ohm cabinet with a head that runs 4 ohms at 250 watts and 8 ohms at 180 watts, will anything bad of any sort happen? I've head bad things about under powering and overpowering a cab, so I'm just kinda confused at this point. Any advice would help! :help: Here are links to the cab and head: Head - http://www.guitarcenter.com/Hartke-H...73-i2536884.gc Cab - http://www.guitarcenter.com/Hartke-X...40-i2536879.gc |
It's a good match, use your ears. |
Nope. Your setup is Bassackwards. It's better to have too much amp and not enough Speakers. Here's why. Too little amp requires turning up over 7/10 on the volume knob. This causes Clipping which causes heat which burns up voice coils. Your best bet is too much amp and too much speaker so that 1/2 volume is way more than enough volume. But...I would always prefer too much Amp Vs. Too much speaker. |
And I developed an allergy to corn :hmm: |
It's fine, use your ears. Amp clipping sounds like arse. More likely you will fart the cab before it clips at 180w. |
perfectly acceptable. Why not go with the hartke lh500 an get a used cab? I run an lh500 I bought new for 300 shipped from amazon. And a swr pre fender goliath sr 6x10 That I practically stole from guitar center for 400$. My amp puts out 500 watts at 4 ohms and the cab handles 1000 at 4 ohms. |
