2U rack vs 3U for GK700RBII

Sign in to disble this ad
I am downsizing my SKB 3U shallow rack which currently holds my GK700 and a Furman Power Conditioner; I know I don't need the PC, and want to lighten my load with either an SKB shallow 2U or a Gator shallow 2U. I have read conlicting reports about the needed ventilation for GKs in racks. Right now, even with the PC, I've had no problem with heating--even in FL summers. The manual says 1.75" to vent, so maybe I'd be better off with a vented rack panel and staying with the 3U?

Any GK users out there with a 2U rack?

How much lighter is a two-space than a three-space with one space empty?

Personally, I’d get a light three-space rack. And ya never know if later you’ll want to use the extra space for something.

I transport mine in a Gator gigbag for keyboard, works great and it's cheap.

I was going to stick mine into a 2U airhead cab until I read the manual. I would imagine that having a power conditioner on top of the amp would be no different than having the top of the rack directly over the fan. Yours has never overheated with the fan blocked like that?

No, it never did--even in hot outdoor venues. Still, I will keep the 3U and simply add a ventilated front panel (they have them at MF).
