2x10 with a 12" or a 15"

Sign in to disble this ad
For a while now i have been using a Gk MB210 for my double bass and electric but lately i have found a need for more volume on my electric bass gigs. I have tried both the 15" and 12" external cab's and still can decide the 15 has more booty but the 12 have punch and clarity........what are you opinions?

Another 210 same as the one you have now. Stacked vertically of course although I think the mb210 has speakers in opposite corners right? Then whichever way makes the skinniest tallest stack.

+1.

But if you have to choose between the 12 and the 15, I would go with the 12. I would rather have punch and clarity than boom, even if the boom is louder.

yep!

bass likes to be in-phase with other bass, so identical cabs will have better low end efficiency. (plus, a 2x10 will kick butt over a 12 and maybe even a 15 anyway.)

I'll agree too. Another 2x10. Amazing really, as I never found anything wrong with my 1x12 &1x15 rig, but matching seems best

Do yourself a favor.... get the 15. For dynamic range v's distance from cab, no other combo comes close. I've been in the room with so many other configurations.... This is the one. Seriously, go to your local guitar store and check it out for yourself. Walk around the room while you play, give yourself some distance from the cab to let the lower Hz waves develop. You'll be surprised by the old 15.

I had an Aguilar GS112 + S210 stack as my first real rig. I should have kept it, it sounded great.

If you don't like the tone of your 210, then ditch it for a 212. Or, just add another 210...

Bass does not need distance "to develop." Please do some reading of the many threads on this issue and stop perpetuating this myth.

Actually it does. It makes sense. That's why if you have a subwoofer in your car (a good one, anyway!) you'll have more bass with the windows partly down. The soundwaves are longer.

It makes sense if you don't know how sound waves work and have no understanding of the concepts of boundary effects and room modes.

I agree with adding another 2x10. I did, however, run a 2x10+1x12 rig for a few years and the rig kicked butt! I wish I would have kept those cabs!

As for mixing speakers, it can be done, but you take a chance. I have been running a 15 with a 12 for awhile now with no problems, but I have to remember not to push the 12 too hard. When mixing speakers like that one cab will always be more vulnerable than the other---usually, that is. At least that's the way I understand it as I try to learn more about all this. In my system everything sounds fine, though. Much fuller sound than the 12 alone. The 15 alone can get almost as loud as both together, but running both cabs together is really the cat's pajamas. But, as I understand it, running identical cabs is better, actually.

2x10 + 2x10 + stacked vertically = much more than you'd expect.

IMHO.

So if he went for the 210, and wanted to stack it vertically, you putthe combo amp on its side?
