This is a good example of my oft posted 'it depends'. +1

If you start out with a relatively low powered amp, and a small cab (like a 210) that has relatively good mechanical specs, it is amazing what a 2db increase in output, and the additional headroom that allow a more open, non-compressed low end can do. It can literally be the difference between 'this rig sucks' and 'this rig is great'.

Start out with 500 watts into 8ohms and a 210, you would get zero advantage of going to a 4ohm unit, and would be much better off with additional drivers.

It all depends

Agedhorse said exactly what I was thinking. Some neopak amps are good to 2 ohms.

Hate to see you damage an amp due to misunderstanding it's ratings.

Also, chack the back of your NeoPak to see if it carries the rating of 500 watts at 2 ohms. The later ones came from the factory this way and many of the earlier ones were upgraded at the factory under an upgrade program to run at 2 ohms.
Sorry, meant stereo, not bridged. I have this power amp (the 502)
http://www.qscaudio.com/products/amps/cx/cx2/cx2.htm

I have only ran it down to 2 ohms once, as I set it up to run one channel of the monitors while it ran my rig as well. It is an awesome poweramp, just wish it was as light as the inuke @ 7 lbs, rather than 21lbs. IMO and IME, having a pre/power setup is much more flexible than a single head. The trade off is weight.

Your CX series power amp will be around and still working for 20 years or more. It is a very solid piece of gear... you got what you paid for here. Yes there are lighter, cheaper power amps out there but in this case I think you will be happy for a very long time with a slight weight penalty.

I bought it used about 5 years ago, and it was 5 years old when I bought it; so it is half way the the 20 and it is showing no signs of any wear. I only wish that it had speakon outputs...

Most of what is being said is correct.

A 4ohm cab is limited unless it can provide enough SPL on its own, or if you have a 2ohm stable amp so you can add more speakers.

Likewise a 210 is very limited in total SPL and most likely you might want to add another 210.

Most 210 are lucky to handle 150 to 200watts before 10% distortion.

So being worried about 250 or 330 watts is just silly, because the cab cant handle more than 150.

And again as said adding more speakers is more beneficial than more power. 4ohms is the end of the road for almost all modern amps.

If you still want a small footprint and a single carry rig. Then i would look at a more expensive 212 instead of a low cost 210.
A high powered 212 can carry a room alot better and has much more sensitivity. Might save you money in the long run. instead of having to buy more speakers later or replace blown speakers.

sure Aged Horse can tell you about their wonderful neo 212 probable one of the most recommended 212's around here

It doesn't have speak-on outputs because it's primarily intended for the installation market.
