2x10 Bass Cabinet First Time Cab Buyer help!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone, I've been browsing the forums for a while and thought I would finally post.
I've got GAS for a 2x10 bass cabinet to play over the winter break from school. I already have a SansAmp/Crown XLS preamp/power amp combo, that I got on sale this summer.
I'm looking more into brands I haven't played through before that are well priced, namely the Avatar, TCelectronic, Carvin 2x10. Anyone have experience with these? - I tend to like cabs with the least tone color.

Any other small rig recommendations would be greatly appreciated as well

I bought this one last year to take to rehearsal out of town. Wanted a small quality portable combo.
Hartke — HyDrive 210C
It was probably the best amp/cab purchase I've ever made. It seemed a bit pricey and it's also not as light as it looks but the sound is fantastic. I continue to use it for rehearsal and simply love the kick back feature design. I also have the massive rig for live shows but simply love this Hartke.

Avatar uses Eminence's 2510 drivers with a custom x-max in their 10" Neo cabinets, (same 10" Neos you'll find in Berg's, Epi, ect., and other high-dollar cabinets.)
Their horns are from Foster, (same horn and highs driver as used in Ampeg's, Peavey's, Roland's, Eden's, Fender's, SWR's,
ect., ect.
Avatar's crossovers are from Eminence.
I replaced my heavy, hard to transport, overly expensive, Ed*n bass cabinets with two, Avatar Neo 210 cabinets that I stack as a vertical 410.
Haven't regretted the switch for a second!
Great sound and great componets in a portable cabinet at a affordable price.

You've got the power to get the best out of ito, so how about an Acme Low B2? They put out SERIOUS lows. With a lot of power being sent through them, they really shine as they aren't the most efficient cabs, but when you've got them going they're sweet! Not too heavy either, I think around 45 lbs or something like that.

I have a XLS power amp that I've been using recently to drive both an Acme B2 and an Ampeg SVT210AV. The Acme is a great cab that I've been using for years, but the Ampeg is really light so I use it for weekly rehearsals.

With the Ampeg you hear a low B on a 5-string but with the Acme you HEAR the low B. There is a huge difference. The Ampeg is a nice cab though, I have no complaints about it.

Tried one of the 210AVs at a local store but didn't have a 5 or a 6 on hand but have been seriously considering picking one up! Good to hear they get the B string across without trouble, they're great sounding with that classic look and my only concern was that they might suffer in the B string dept.

Like he said, a cab like the AV will be more easily portable where the B2 well be louder and really get the lows pumping. Also, the B2 extends from deep lows to breath taking highs, the 210AV is tweeterless and has some high end roll off around 5k IIRC.
