2x10 Dilema???

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi All

Need a bit of help. I'm after a 2x10 to go with my HA3500 and VX410 but I've only got about 300-400 quid to get it with.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Andy

Whatever 2x10 you end up with make sure it's twice the impedance of your 4x10. That way each driver in the whole array gets around the same power. Your amp will have to be able to drive the combined load. Always the best cabinet to pair with is one identical to the original.

Buy a used HX410 (around £300) and sell the VX410. The Hydrive is way better and you may not need another cab. If you do, get another HX410 and have a rig of doom! My 3500 can drive two 410 cabs no problem.

So I should look at a 2x10 with 16ohms or 4ohms impedance???

If your current 4x10 is 8 ohms then you would want a 16 ohm 2x10 so that all of the drivers get the same signal level. If you didn't do this then adding the cab would be completely useless. May I ask why you want to add the 2x10?

I'm after a 2x10 so I can add a bit of punch to my sound as I'm finding the 4x10 not quite enough. It sounds lovely just doesn't cope very well with our drummer and guitarist (who uses a marshall 100watt tube stack I think it's a JM something.) I did look at a 1x15 but it's a bit big to store both in a 1 bedroom apartment. The head's running 240w @ 8ohms or 350 @ 4 ohms if that's any help.

Ahh...volume wars! Gotta love it. The best money you can spend is for a set of decent screwdrivers so you can disconnect two drivers in the Marshall stack. Problem solved.

I don't think you're gonna gain that much territory with an addt'l 2 X 10 given your current set-up and scenario.

I played in a classic rock (Hendrix, Free, Bad Company) band for a while, with very loud drums and a 412 Marshall valve half stack. The guitardist (who was pretty deaf and f'ing loud) used to complain that my Hydrive 410 with the 3500 was too loud, go figure. You need to pay attention to the mids to beat those guys at the volume game.
