2x12 cab sits better horizontally or vertically?

I've read various threads on this forum about horizontal dispersion issue with horizontally stacked drivers.
My cab is an old Parsek 600F32, it's a 2x12 cab with 6" midrange tweeter and reflex. It has B&C drivers, a very fine sounding cab indeed even though I doubt there's any around overseas.
I tried to place the cab so it sits with drivers aligned vertically, like this picture shows:

However, I find that I actually have more mids and better projection with the cab placed horizontally. I think that this could be due to the 6" mid-driver that is placed a bit higher when the cab is horizontal. With the cab vertical, I hear more highs and lows, or less mids if you prefer.
I tried the cab in both positions during a rehearsal, I stood like 5 meters away from the cab and I heard myself much better with the cab placed horizontally.
The absolute best config to me is obviously with the cab placed horizontally AND tilted back so that it is pointed to ear level.
So, are just my ears that are faulty or is there something I haven't considered?

Correct. Tilt it back and you'll hear them even better.
