2x12s for bass distortion

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to bi-amp to get a killer bass distortion tone. I was thinking of using my Avatar neo 410 for my lows and low mids, but I need something for my highs. So I was thinking of using a 2x12 speaker cab. I'm sure it would sound awesome, but my only concern is that the frequencies of the 12s would get in the way of my guitar player too much. So does anyone here have any experience using 12s for bass distortion in a band?

So just so's you know, there is no connection whatsoever between the diameter 12" and the frequency range of guitar, other than kind of a coincidence in that some of the bigger guitar combos use 12's. There are lots of things that affect the frequency response of a speaker cab, such as size, shape, and porting of the box, and the specific model of speaker used; and all of those qualities are WAY more important than diameter.

In fact what's funny is bassists usually get stuck on the idea that bigger diameter = deeper lows and less highs, and you've got the reverse idea. What you really want to do is find speaker cabs that are actually claimed to be relevant to your specific goals.

I dont think it really matters what size speaker you use, you do not want the distortion to come from them. You should get the distortion from the preamp stage of your sound. Anywhere else means your about to fry something expensive.
