3012HO build: help with high freq driver

Hi,

I just bought two kappalite 3012HOs, and plan is to build two boxes in Epifani UL112 style, which means simple two way vented enclosure, 2 cu. ft. net.

Idea was not to use twitter but some mid-high which will do spectrum from ~1,5 to 6-7KHz. I don't really see need for 10Khz or higher for bass guitar.

I'm not really sure what is best high cut off frequency for 3012HO, so some advice with crossover frequency and choosing the second driver would be appreciated

thanks,

Slobodan

Couple ways to go about it. For the widest dispersion, off axis performance, you can cross to a 6" around 1-1.6khz. Or, choose an HF driver that can handle a 2-2.5khz crossover point and do it that way. Selenium has some nice ones. The Emi. asd1001 can handle 2500hz as well. If you don't need the real high response, plenty of 6's can run to 5-7khz on axis.

3012ho is perfectly capable going to 1.5 khz, my choice would be
eminence NSD-2005 compression driver with apt 150 horn.

Not quite the same, but I have a 3012HO, 212, with an 18Sound XD125 horn, crossed at 2khz, Works for me.

I would like to avoid 6" mid. It doesn't fit into my idea of portable 12" cab

Yeah, those PSD snd NSDs are nice, but well priced as well, ~140 euro for NSD2005. to much for me at this time.

Above that is where you're really gonna noticably lose response off axis. On axis, it'll run high enough to meet a good tweeter.

You COULD use eminence apt 80 and cross it around 1.8khz but it would require 3rd or even 4th order hi pass filter. Me thinks that Barefaced midget T uses 3012HO and apt 80.

Hi again, some time has passed, and due to lack of funds, all I done is a simple 12" cab with no additional drivers.

Now I'm back and wanna finish this project finally.

I figured single 3012HO lacks in low end, so idea is to put both in single 3-3,5 cu ft cab, with additional horn.

thinking about NSD2005, APT150S horn and PXB2 crossover at 1,6KHz, but I saw someone saying NSD2005 is a overkill for bass cabs.

any thoughts or suggestions?

update: local Eminence dealer needs 2 months to deliver as they don't have anything on stock (I waited 3 months for kappalites), but I have chance to buy used RCF N850 for $130-140

http://www.rcf.it/products/precision...n-drivers/n850

would this do?

unfortunately shops in my country don't have anything on stock so I don't have lot of choice
