4 and 8 ohms in the same cab

I just got a 2x15 black widow cab off craigslist for $75. I noticed one speaker was different than the other so I pulled them apart. The bottom speaker is the stock 8 ohm black widow and the top one is a 4 ohm eminence speaker. I don't have an amp head at home so I hooked them up individually to my house stereo reciever. The black widow sounds great. low and punchy but the eminence sounds like crap. Almost no bass what so ever. I'm gonna try it out on my bass amp friday. If the black widow sounds good, I'm just gonna buy a brand new one to put in there. But, is there any way to wire these together to get a good sounds? I'll be pushing them with a crown xls1000 and a behringer bass v-amp pro.

also, the eminence looks almost brand new and I don't see any damage. does it sound like crap because my house stereo is 8 ohms? Not enough power?

The Eminence maybe damaged as it would be receiving twice the power the BW was. The total load if wired parallel would be 2.667 ohms.

You need matching speakers sharing the same airspace in the cab.

The mix you have now is a 2.67 ohm load, with the 4 ohm eminence getting 2/3 of the power. If the previous owner ran it like that for a while it is a good guess that the eminence is pretty beat.

If your stereo overloaded with a 4 ohm load then that would sound like doo-doo.

Thanks guys. That' what I figured. I'll probably put the eminence in one of my combos to see how it sounds. I'll just stick with my plan to get another black widow.
