4 ohm amp at 2?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have the Eden WT 300 amp and I'm trying to connect two cabs to it. I know that Edens aren't stable at 2 ohms though. The thing is that one of the cabs has an 'in' and 'out' plug (swr triad). Will this allow me to connect a Mesa Diesel 2x15 to the SWR? FYI both cabs are 4 ohms.

No. Those are parallel in/out and you're only going to get a 2 ohm load.

Is there a difference between connecting the extra cab on that out on the triad or via the 2nd amp out on the Eden or are both parallel?

They'll both be parallel.

A bit of a situation there..
The only options (that i can see) are..
1) run an extra slave amp to drive the other cab.
2) Replace both bins for 8 ohm ones
3) Replace the head with one that will run at 2 ohms.
4) Only use one cabinet at a time.

I could suggest a 5th option of running the two cabs in series, but that would make the connected load 8 ohms, and would reduce the amp output (if non tube or non selectable) to around half, and not really offer much advantage over one cabinet.

I really don't think you'd benefit anything by going down this road. Just my opinion...

What does that amp put out at 4 ohms? 300w?

You wouldn't be pushing much wattage to each speaker, and if you ran it at 2 ohms I'd be worried about blowing it up. You also may run into some weird phasing type issue with all the different speaker sizes.

I'm not trying to run both cabs, I just wanted to get learned. I'm torn between the diesel and the tried. One is big and sounds deep and big the other is smaller, sounds good but is less on my back. Not sure what to do now.

Thanks for the lesson all.

2 ohms should never have been invented.

Maybe more like "all amps should be made to handle 2 ohms".
