4 ohm daisy chained to a 8 ohm

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok did a search, heck did about 20. so gotta ask. I have a peavey amp head, 300 watts @ 4 ohms 650 watts @ 2 ohms, have a 4x10 madison cab, 800 watts 8 ohms. now I have a offer for a free behringer ultrabass 410, its 4 ohms, if I daisy chain these two cabs together will it work? or will the 4 ohm still get more power? be louder? will it hurt anything and if I do it does it matter which 1 is hooked to the amp 1st. Thanks all.

This will cause the amp to see 2.6 ohm. The amp is rated to 2 ohm so it ahold be fine. As long as you are care with the volume knob on start up you should be fine! The speakers don't care what the impedance is as long as the amp can handle it!

the 4 ohm cabinet will use 66% of the amp's power, and the 8 ohm cab will get 33%. Power flows in the path of least resistance.
I would be inclined to rewire the internal Behringer cab speakers to 16 ohms (because thats the only useful wiring combination), to take most of the load of this cab.

Edit: depending on how loud you play too, just would be worried about popping the Behringer speakers at excesive levels, otherwise leave the cab wiring as is.

I do it all the time using an 8 Ohm 1X12 Wharfdale as my monitor and Carvin 10.2 Neo 4 Ohm cabinet for the room; total load is 2.6 Ohms. That's my normal setup for my Carvin BX500 and my Yamaha BBT500H.

Yes

be louder?
depends on the efficiency of the 4 Ohm cabinet, you'll have to try it for yourself to be sure, regardless of what the brochure says.

Doesn't mean a thing if the amp is rated to handle 2 Ohms. I determined which one to hook up first by looking at how much room I had to work with. The amp doesn't notice because the power is consumed by the cabinets, not the amp.

Thanks all for your answers, didn't take the behringer though, read a bunch of reviews and sounds like something I would rather stay away from.

Can't go wrong with a free 410 cab, even if it is behringer...
