410 advice

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, Talkbass.

I'm running a cabinet loaded with an Eminence KAPPA PRO-15LF-2 15-inch speaker. I've got an empty 4x10 cab that i'm looking to load up, to complement the above-mentioned speaker. Any opinions on what speakers to try out? I'm thinking that staying with Eminence might ensure that the speakers go well together sonically, but i guess that could just be superstition. I've been using a Hartke aluminum-coned 410, and i like the general idea, but i feel it could sound just a little bit more...clear, i guess. Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

In case anyone needs to know, my setup is

Ric 4001 > keely compressor set for minimal compression > ampeg V4 > cabinets.

I play indie rock and prog, with the amp set to be kinda gritty. I mostly use my fingers, but occasionally strum chords with a pick. I don't slap (nothing against it, it just doesn't fit the music i'm playing).

you need to know the internal volume of the box and it's tuning frequency (fmeasure up the box and the port area)

get winisd or bassbox6 and insert the data (it will calculate the tuning) and then from the database select the drivers you are looking to load the box with.

you should find out what drivers fit better than just guessing..but it's way more to it than just the program..about a lifetime of research you dont have time for.
