410MBX, Freq Range question

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been looking for a lowish priced 410 350 watts + 8 ohm cab, and I thought I had found the one with the 410MBX, but then I saw that the freq range bottoms out at 50 HZ, not even a low D. Is this a major issue? Will I notice the difference, and more importantly, will an audience notice it? This is my first cab purchase, buying a GK fusion 550 today (over talkbass!).

You could get a Neo 410. They're rated to 45hz.

It's no issue at all. This is why:

I think I sort of understand. The majority of the energy is outside of that frequency range? or something like that? I like to tune down to C# standard with the low string dropped to B, will that affect anything?

Those waterfall plots show you the majority of the output in a bass is not at the fundamental but at the first harmonic. A low B that's about 60hz, a low E around 80. Not that the fundamental doesn't matter at all, just not nearly as much as people think it does.

A lot of companies stretch their specs. Listing the lowend at 50hz is at least doable and probably close to honest.

Likewise what a lot of people percieve as deep bass is really an octave higher than truly deep bass. Very few bass cabs can really reach 40hz with any degree of output save for maybe Acme's and some diy stuff. That's true subwoofer territory down there.

Thanks, thats a big help. Probably go with this thing then, as I will most likely be able to test one locally (GK is one of the few bass amps they carry, other than the usual linesix/fender/traynor stuff)

below 50 is a bunch of muck yuck for a bass guitar, 5 or 4, anything lower than 60 is useless headroom sucking mudmush. the focus and, god help me, punch is 'realized' a bit higher. the manual for my old Ibanez master series bass e.q. taught me this first hand in the 80's. LET THE FLAMING BEGIN
