Doing a cleanup on my 412TVX and found that there is what looks to be some sort of filter media installed in the bottom port passageways. Judging by the cleanliness, it is not original.
Why would someone do this?
Was there any kind of insulation or what not in these cabs?
If it wasnt intended to be there I want to remove it, but I would love to hear from someone who has used/ does use this cab.
Thanx in advance for any feedback,

I have no idea. Someone else might, but I've honestly never seen that in ports before.

| | | | I used to sell the TVX Series cabs at my old job and they use that in all the cabs in that series, I've even noted how tacky it looked being that close to the ports, anyways, it's factory original and I wouldn't mess with it.
If you haven't noticed it till now you'll prob forget about it in good time.
The dampening makes the speaker "think they're in a much larger enclosure" to borrow a phrase from Bob Heil's Guide to concert sound and the Speaker Enclosure books... |

It will stay in the cab.
Anyone played a nitrobass through this cab?
How did you get the tone you were after?

| | | | My TVX412 is my main gigging cab. There is no such dampening in my cab.
Still sounds fine to me... |

| | | I did the same thing to my 410tx to tame the low mid punch just not so close to the port ,worked well |

Although, I'm certainly no expert. And removing it has been advised against.
Anthony.

Sounds good, it was mostly a curiosity.
I really didnt know that cab manufacturers did that but it does make sense.
Thanx for the replies all.
