4x 10 Cab Recommendations (Eden, Trace, Hartke?)

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

I am going to pick up a 4x10 cabinet as a 2nd cab. My power amp has 2 channels so I am covered there. I am looking for something in the 500- 600 watt range.

I need something that can deliver some great lows. I've been looking at the Eden XLTs. What do you guys think?

Thanks,

I have been an Eden guy for 20 years , IMO there is no way you can go wrong with them. You can pick these up used all the time, I would definitely go that direction!

What's available in your area for "test drives"? Just curious. The Eden would be a great choice.

I do have a spot about 30 minutes from me to test drive Edens. Speaking of which, where can I find localized classifieds so I can find cabs I don't have to get shipped?

I tried craigslist and searched the TalkBass classifieds. No luck.

Thanks,

Yeah, shipping can be expensive. I was gonna say "I'm surprised you can't find anything on CraigsList" but the cab selection here has been pitiful, as well....and we're talking Norfolk / Virginia Beach. Where are you located?

Not sure what that means but that's nothing new.

How much of a hardship would it be to drive to NYC and/or vicinity? Have you posted a WTB thread? Either way, I've made 4-6 hour roundtrips to check out and oftentimes purchase gear.

I have a trace elliot 1048H, really good cab. It's one of the old ones so it's very heavy, but I've heard great things about the new Trace Elliot cabs and they are not as heavy, you may want to check those out.

i'm playing the ampeg 410 classic now, used to play eden and swr, but for what i do (blues, jazz, r&B, soul) this cab kills it.

btw i run a GK 1001rb into it. with a '77 P with flatwounds

i love that it has wheels too. my whole rig gets from the car to the stage in one trip.

I was thinking about the Trace's. Not really sure where to look to find them. Is that something Guitar Center or Sam Ash carries?

Zooberwerx- I was referring to the MTV show that brought notoriety to my area lately "Jersey Shore":

Anyone ever buy cabs from Guitar Center/ Sam Ash, take them home and test them and return if you didn't like them?

Thanks,

You may want to check their on-line return policies and then make phone calls to the individual stores in question to verify the products are in stock.

We have a beach here, too, but I don't know if they're into the fist-pumping thing. We have had a few people bitten by sharks but MTV might pass on that aspect.

If your after great lows I would go with the Eden XST rather than the XLT. I have both and IMO the XST has great aggressive mids and the XLT has the extended lower end to handle the B string.

Would depend a lot on your style/genres played

I love my Genz Benz Uber 410's. I know it wasn't one that was listed but thought it should be on your radar at least. The Mesa I played through at the store a while back was pretty good too.

Alternative choice

Let's not forget about the Avatar B410 Neo cabs.

I was so impressed after I bought one, I ordered a second one!

They can handle 1000 watts, have high excursion speakers so they move a lot of air, and can take anything I dish out. I use a Markbass LMIII - 800w head and they've never let me down.

At 63lbs each they're manageable and both fit neatly in the backseat of my Toyota Avalon.

$449 + $35 shipping - no tax - great deal
Check 'em out at www.avatarspeakers.com
