4x10 + 2x 2x10...?

Sign in to disble this ad
Since I have a 4x10 and a 2x10, been thinking of getting a 2nd 2x10 for that full stack effect. Or should I just get another 4x10...? Yes, I know that impedance for each cab must be correct for proper use, I have a plan for that. I'm hoping to keep all cabinets SWR Goliath II's, since that's what I have. Every now & again one pops up.

Well, if you want a modular rig you could do that. Grab a 210, take a 410, or grab em all!! I guess it depends on your transportation as well. I liked my dual 210's because there were a few spots I played where I could get away with just using one. YMMV. If you are always going to use everything in your arsenal though, I'd probaby just get another 410.

What impedance is your 410? what impedance is you 210? One thnig I've learned here is that you need each speaker to have the same impedance, so they receive the same amount of power. If you have a 410, get another 410 of the same brand and same model. unless you have a 4 ohm and your amp minimum load is 4ohm

this is for the SVT, 4 or 2 ohm load. The 410 is 4ohm, the 2x10 is 8 ohm. Another 8ohm 2x10 would work fine...but I'm starting to wonder if I should just get a 6x10 or 8x10 for simplicity's sake. I also have a mini-rig consisting of a BX500 and a pair of 1x12's.

If you have someone to help you carry it and transportation/storage is not an issue, buy the 810.

I actually have those speakers - a 4x10 and two 2x10's. I've been planning on selling the 4x10 but haven't got off the dime...

The problem you'd face is impedance. Let's say all three cabs are 8 ohm cabs (as is the case with my stuff). Any two cabs added together will give you a 4 ohm load; Add another 8 ohm cab to that and now you have a 2.66 ohm load... So unless you head is rated for a max load of 2ohms or better, you risk summoning the smoke demon from its resting place...

Dig?

The OP said his Ampeg will take a 2 Ohm load, and his 410 is 4 Ohms -- a 4 and 2 x 8 Ohm loads is 2 Ohms, every speaker getting the same power; perfect!

I you want loud clean cut through mud...and a low B that will make an 118 shake with fear then you have found the right cab !!!...Juts had mine at a big 3 balcony theater here this week end and well the sound guys where not putting the bass through the mix...so i just add a lil bit more volume and she powered the building!!!...someone else was using it for one song and i went out to the back of the room...i was felling the b string all the way at the top and back......i was very Happy!! So in the end if you can afford it and have a way of moving it...get it!!! Ok i am done!! All the best mate!!

Get yourself a nice 15" JBL - they go nicely with 2/10"

Correct me if Im wrong, but if you daisy chained the 210s together and ran them into one output of the head, and went from the other output into the 410 wouldn't that amp be pushing the same thing as 2 410 cabs?

no need for correction.

8 ohm + 4 ohm = 2.6 ohms. 8 ohm + 8 ohm = 4 ohm...+ 4ohm = 2 ohm.

As far as cab design goes, I really love the way the SWR's sound with the 2-pro. Many say that you should run a sealed cab with a tube amp, like the Ampeg 810E. Given that I like the vented cabs, not sure I'd like a sealed cab...I like more low-end over more mid-range

Go for the ported!!! I really dont care for the sealed cabs...yeah the a lil bit more tighter....but man i low a killer bottom end. There was a guy at the concert i played at that had 2 harkie sealed 410's...he came up to me after and said that the Megoliath Blew his right out of the watter when it came to the low b string...he was like i got to get me one of those cabs.....he said it was earth shacking from were he was sitting...just could not believe the low end it had!!

I just got a bead on another Goliath II 4x10. I'll pick it up in 2 weeks and will probably sell the 2x10 and make most of my money back (it was that cheap...)
