I'm using an svt3 pro into a hartke 410XL "transient attack". I am thinking about adding a 2x10. The svt outputs 275w at 8ohms, and 450w at 4ohms. The hartke is rated as a 240w 8ohm cab. I was thinking about either adding a hartke 210XL (200w 8ohms) or an ampeg 210av (also 200w 8ohms). I like the hartke sound as it works well for heavy metal, but sometimes I wish I could get a little more volume out of the cab before it starts to complain. I guess I need a little more headroom. I used to use an ampeg 8x10, and that thing sounded awesome, but I sold it when I moved cross country. Mixing the ampeg sound w/ the hartke sound interests me too. The 4x10 fits well in my new car, but I don't have room for a 6x10 cab. I can squeeze another 2x10 in though. If I hook this up with the 4x10 and the 2x10 in parallel, will it mean I'll be running 440w at 4ohms? Will the 2x10 be louder than the 4x10? I might just sell the 4x10 I have and upgrade to one of the 400W new Hartke 410XLs. Any thoughts? (other than you hate hartke) |

Posted my intentions on here and was roundly rebuked by the speaker police. Yes it will work, but the 2x10 will be taking more power than the 4x10 so it'll be an uneven match, a bit like a 4x10 / 1x15 setup. Another 4x10 is a better match. I don't know the science behind it and I'm sure someone will jump in.
I didn't get the 2x10 in the end anyway...

I would love two 4x10's, but I would have to wait for a bigger car. As it is I drive a Scion TC. The hatchback is perfect for the 4x10, the amp, and a few basses, with a little bit of breathing room. When I used to have the old ampeg 8x10 I would rely on the guys in the band with the trucks.
So I was correct in assuming that the speakers in the 2x10 would be proportionately louder than the speakers in the 4x10? That's what I was worried about. I guess the upgrade to 400w hartke410xl might be my best option. I'll have to hope Santa can help me sell my old cab on craigslist when he brings my new one. Man, I wish I could fit another 4x10, because I can pick up another 240w 4x10 used for pretty cheap at the local GC. |

If the 410 and the 210 present the same impedance, then each speaker in the 210 will receive twice the power of each speaker in the 410, and will therefore be more susceptible to damage. The ideal way around it is to have a 210 cab that has twice the impedance of the 410, so that each speaker receives the same power. This is pretty straightforward if your head can handle 2 ohms (4 ohm 410 plus 8 ohm 210 for a total of 2.7 ohms).

If I sell the hartke cab, I think that will be a good upgrade. Only a few pounds more, but a lot more power handling. As long as I can lift it without killing myself. |

oh, and crank the gain hard with the 3 pro. it loves it!
