4x10 or 2x15?

Looking down the road, as I plan on gigging in a few years, hopefully with a country band, at an amp set up. I loved my GK MB115 but I know I'll need something a lot more powerful for gigs. So I've settled on the new GK MB500 head but not sure what cabinets I want to go for. I was thinking two of the 8ohm NEO 115 cabs, or the NEO 410 cab but not sure which I should go for. I love the fat tone out of the 115s. I love 115s in general as I like a full, fat tone, and I don't use a lot of treble. But I also like the idea of 1 cab and 1 head, less i have to carry around and ends up being less money. So which would be better? 2 15s running at 500W or a 4x10 running at 500W?

I had a 115 running with a 210 for the longest time, and it always sounded amazing, but ended up switching to a 410 because I simply liked it better. I still get a lot of punchy highs and nice bassy lows with it, I wouldn't even consider adding a 15 to my rig simply because the low end is already that good.

Any reasons for a 4x10 being better or 2x15 being better overall?

I'd be looking for a 2x15 neo cab. I can't stear you from there.

Well unfortunately GK doesn't make a 2x15

a matter of preference, really. I've had both, I like 4x10 better.

I also think that there is more cone surface moving in a 4x10, so more "air is being pushed", to used the tortured phrase. I think 10s sound better than 15"s... Heck, I think 12s do too!

Oh... going by the subject line I though you wanted opinions on a single 4x10 cabinet vs. a single cabinet loaded with 2 15s. And I was gonna say I don't know why anyone would willingly subject themselves to double the bulk and weight for a cab that probably (IMO) won't sound as good.

If you have the space to store two 1x15s you will have some more versatility that way. So if you really like the 15-inch sound I'd go that way, and you can leave one of them home when you're not on a huge stage or outdoors. Personnally I've rocked a single 410 the last 15 years and in the last 5 years especially I can count on one hand the number of times I might have wanted a second cab.

I know your combo has only 200 watts, but remember, GK is coming out with powered cabs, which might make for a second 15 for your combo.

Unless you’ll want/need more watts, of course.

Don't get me wrong, as I've got a GK, but it doesn't begin and end there.

I re-read your OP - You're thinking about using two 1x15" cabs -

I used two 2x10" cabs and *love it*. Something to think about...

no doubt - but if the OP is trying to have a modular/portable rig, two 2x12"s isn't gonna get him there - I have a single Aguilar 2x12 and small it is NOT!

Two 210's as a vertical 410.
I love 15's also, but with the loud, 6 pcs., country/rock group I'm with I was getting a nice low end pillow with 15's...(12's were the same story for me)...but not the cut/clarity I was looking for.
BillF, T.B. speaker and sound guru turned me on to the idea of using two 210 cabinets as a vertical stacked 410.
Vertical stacking two 210's will give you alittle better mids dispersion and projection than a standard 410 cabinet. Plus it'll get the top speaker up higher and closer to your ears.
You can use one 210 cabinet for rehearsals/low volume gigs/ louder gigs with FOH, both 210's when more volume and projection is needed.
I'm also using a GK MB-500 head. I'm running it into two Avatar Neo 210 cabinets.
For my tastes I've got more than enough low end, but I've also got the clarity and cut I was lookin' for.

I guess I was thinking of something like my GK 212MBE, 34lbs.

With PA support, I couldn’t imagine needing more than one, though.

If you are going to use the 4x10s by themselves, i.e. without a sub under them, I would recommend the 2x15. Especially for country.

+1 my 212 mbe is more than enough with only 200 watts.
