4x10 advice request: Should I stay with GK?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've currently got a GK 700rbII and a 410rbx cab. I'm looking for just a little more volume/headroom before I reach push the head into the growling stage, so I'm gonna go with another 4 10's.

I can't match the 410rbx with another as it has been discontinued. I could go for a lower priced GK 410 that doesn't have a horn, or go for a higher priced GK 410... but I can't find anywhere that has the same exact cab.

I could also go for a different brand 410 like an Ampeg or Hartke, and I haven't ruled out selling the 410rbx and replacing it with an Ampeg 810.

I do mostly like the tone I've got so far, plenty of mids and highs. I'm mostly out for more volume, but enhancing the lows wouldn't be a terrible thing either.

Opinions? Suggestions? Flames?

The RBH cabs they do are apparently amazing. i'm thinking of getting a couple at some point for my 1001RB-II.

English dealer but they may be able to ship over. I have nothing to do with the sale and am not advertising, it's the only website I found still selling them.

Just about any cab will sound good with that head. You might even concider throwing the NEO 410 in the mix?

I've considered the NEO. I was also looking and saw the mbx410... is that basically the same cabinet as the rbx410 but with a silver grill instead of black?

I don't really care about the cabinets matching, or even about playing the same brand... I'm just concerned with tone and volume. I don't wanna add on a different brand if it isn't going to sound good with the rbx410. I don't know that I need another horn tweeter, I think I'm getting plenty of horn out of the cabinet I've already got.

Agreed - I use my 700rb-IIs with a Goliath Sr on a regular basis, and that pairing works extremely well... My main gigging rig is a 700rb-II into a Mesa PH 610, and this setup kills... I've also gotten excellent results pairing G-K heads up with Ampeg cabs - specifically, the SVT810e and the SVT-410HLF...

Has been my experience as well - IMO, the 700rb-II is destined to be one of the all-time greats...
