I want to buy a Bass 4x10 cabinet
i have about £300 to spend, not alot...but i know you can get some good cabs for that much, especially second hand. So tell me guys,

Ashdown Mag 410t
Peavey 410tvx
Hartke Vx410
Fender Rumble 4x10

Which is best for 70's/80's metal (metallica, zztop, megadeth, iron maiden)

I'd say go with the Hartke as well, Just picked up the 410 after playing the HX115 for a while. Packs one heck of a punch, great tone and really light too!

Me too!

I've been using the Hydrive 4-10 for two years. I turned off the horn and perfect for 70s old school tone. Sounds so good I don't comsider it a budget cab. It's a great all around purchase.

I'd say the VX is ok. Kind of on the low end for Hartke, but it will do the job if you're not a tone snob and don't need crazy volume. I tried it out several times at the store and it just didn't do it for me. But that's just me.

I replace an Ampeg 410HLF years ago with a Peavey 410TVX. The Peavey totally killed the Ampeg in every way. I have used only SWR and Peavy cabs since.

Depending on what niche of style your playing I would actually say peavey! Iv'e played through them a couple times and found that they have an immense ability to really really Punch.... Without having to go to extreme prices of say most other brands, however I must admit to have never really tried to get a mega subby sound from them

Peavy and Hartke both are good valued cabs. I sold my Hartke VX410 a year ago for $250.00. I just didn't need a 410 any longer. Nice cab though.

Of the 4. The hartke (in my experience) offers the best bang for your buck. They have the most low end, give the best tone. And they are invincible, I had a friend drop one down a flight of stairs, and it sill worked just fine.

I have owned the Hartke VX410 and the Peavey TVX410, and for me I liked the Peavey much better. The Hartke isn't a bad cab but the Peavey seemed brighter and clearer, and to me had more punch. Now, if I remember correctly, they Peavey is quite a bit heavier though..if that concerns you at all.
Also, I dont think the Hartke has a volume knob for the tweeter on the back, and I believe the Peavey does.

I've got the Hartke VX410. It's a nice cab, especially for the money, though tonally it could be better. I got mine with a Hartke HA4000 head for £260; well worth the money. The higher end Hartke cabs like the XL series (4.5XL in particular) would probably be worth getting given they're only a little bit more expensive albeit heavier, if you like Hartke gear of course.

I just got a used Peavey TVX410 off ebay for $175, local pickup. A good price but not a killer deal IMHO. It has a volume knob on the back for the tweeter. The tolex had a few tears but the speakers seems fine and the MDF is undamaged underneath.

I can honestly say my Peavey cab has survived an earthquake. We had a 5.9 today in the Wash DC area.

So do I. I use the Peavey TVX 410 and a TVX 210 with a Peavey T-Max. Both in 4 Ohm version.

For other heads I have a MusicMan 410, a real old one, no tweeter. There also is a Workingmans 212 and a 210.

But for your purposes I would commend the Peavey TVX 410. You can get one used for a reasonable price. I got mine for € 160,-- in Germany on eBay.

I also picked the peavey.Used them for quite a while with no issues. I own a Hartke Hydrive 410 and its the only hartke i ever liked. As for the Ashdown, i like their Higher end heads(used the ABM series last weekend) but not a big fan of the cabs weight. Grab your gear and plug into your friends cab and make sure thats your tone. The Fender Rumble, i played one with my Hartke LH1000 and did n ot like it at all. Sounded hollow and fake to me.

the Hartke has really weird off-axis response - and aluminum is the wrong material to use in a speaker cone (even combined with another material) because it softens every time it moves and its sound quality changes markedly when it does.

I play an Avatar Neo 410. I had ampeg 410hlf which was too heavy. I actually like the sound, price and certainly the weight of the Avatar. Great low end. I picked up used one in mint condition for $280.0O
