4X10 expansion

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm currently playing through a Trace Elliot V6 and a David Eden D410XLT, 4 Ohms. I want to expand the set-up with either a 2x10 or a 1x15 of the same make. What would you choose if you were expanding a 4x10.

Your input is appreciated.

Phil.

It depends on how it sounds. Not all 2x10s/1x15"S are the same. I prefer 10's to 15's,. but I can't say when it comes to trace.

Also, make sure that head can take a 2ohm load...!

If you're limiting yourself to 2x10 or 1x15, I'd go 2x10.

i would never use a second cab unless it was an exact match of the first.

Given those choices, I'd go with an additional 2x10, but why not just get a second 4x10?

I would just get another 4x10 of the same like Jimmy said. That way you have the flexibility of having just one 4x10 for smaller to medium gigs and then pair them to make essentially a 8x10 for larger gigs. My two cents.

First thing to consider is the minimum load the amp can handle. Is it stable to 2 ohms? If not, you're not adding anything to what you have. If it is, a matching 410 is the best thing you could do. Anything else is both a crap shoot, and a compromise.

The amp is switchable between 4 and 2 Ohms.

The 4x10 is an Eden D410XLT
The 2x10 is an Eden D210XLT and
The 1x15 is an Eden D115XLT , all are 4 Ohms.

Is this what you mean when you say exact match?

I actually want something I can also use as a stand alone (without the 4x10) for home practice. I can't get the 4x10 up the stairs.

No - he means exactly the same cab. In your case, another D410XLT.

In that case, best option would be the D210XLT at 8 ohms. Plenty for home practice, and when it's together with the 410, all 6 speakers are receiving the same power from your head, switched to 2 ohms.

Absolutely!!!

If you add a 2x10 @ 4Ω both the cabinets will receive the same power. Not so healthy for the 2x10. Same story with the 1x15. Neither will be able to compete with the 4x10 in any way.

Sorta this too:

TBer: "In that case, best option would be the D210XLT at 8 ohms. Plenty for home practice, and when it's together with the 410, all 6 speakers are receiving the same power from your head, switched to 2 ohms."

I used a 410XLT, 4 ohm w/210XLT 8 ohm quite a few times. The cabs were just so darn heavy I sold em off. I bought two Epifani UL410-II, 8 ohm cabs but just haven't got the chance to use both cabs yet. I made alot of use of the Eden 410/210, using mostly just the 410 but at larger gigs was not quite the hassle to lug the 210 than a second 410, especially a second 410XLT, whew.

The heavier Eden cabs were a hassle but I just haven't found a need for my two Epi cabs yet. I do have a very large outdoor gig coming in a couple weeks but they'll have a huge FOH PA system. I'm thinking to bring both 410's just to finally use the two cabs at a gig. I'll bet they'll just want me to use a single 410 but I'm gonna try for both. They'll be powered by a Streamliner 900 and I wanna hear this setup at least once, so I'm gonna push for it.

If you need a smaller cab for other things then maybe 410/210 will work. Ideally, they'd be 4ohm/8ohm. But I did two 4 ohm Eden 210/410XLT's for awhile, did not hurt anything, volume control recommended.
