4x12 w/ tweeter vs. 1x15 plus 2x10

I am considering upgrading to Epifani cabs. I would like my total setup to give me more full range. Currently I am playing through older SWR Goliath III 2x10, plus tweeter (2 of them), which have served me well, but they definitely do not give me a full range sound. PLus, cabinet advances in the last 12 to 15 years make these not altogether obsolete, but certainly behind the times (yes, my SWR's are THAT old). Additionally, I am sure my cones are also a tad broken in. My most often played instruments (both Foderas) and my amp (a Walter Woods Ultra 1200W) deserve a hi-fi sounding cab, IMO. The wife may not see the light but thats for another post...! Anyway, in considering new cabs I am debating between a 2x12 with tweeter (Epifani UL2x12, I'd get 2 probably) and a 1x15 plus a 2x10 both with tweeters (Epi UL1x15 and UL2x10). I'd be curious to hear input and opinions on these options. Anyone here purchased any of those cabs? Do the UL2x12's cover all bases? (no pun intended). Are the 1x15's sluggish? Any opinions on the Epifani-Walters Woods pairing?

Goliath III Jrs are perfectly decent little cabs, so don't be expecting a whole new world in terms of quality. But going to 4 12s instead of 4 10s would give you a lot more speaker area, so you can run them a little lower and more linear at the volumes you're used to, so you should get a better overall sound. I sort of like the tone of SWR cabs in a lot of ways though. Epifani ULs sound "weird" to me. The pick of the litter IMHO is still the Aguilar GS412. Skip the pair of 2x12s and go for the 116lb tilt-and-roll easy transport of the big aggie. One of the easiest cabs to transport I've ever had, and huge balanced tone.

Thanks for the input. I had considered Ags but word on the street keeps pointing to Epi as the go-to cab for hi-fi. Ill take a look at the Aggies again though. I like the wheels, but its the lifting in and out of the truck and off the floor that kills me. I have a cart to roll all my equipment. Problem with myself is that I live in an area that has no local dealers for ANYTHING high end! So, I either have to travel or figure this out by word of mouth. Thanks for your reply!

I love my Aguilar, but I'm not sure I'd call it hifi, it rolls off somewhere in the upper mids, missing a bit between the cones and the tweeter. I a/bed it with my Tecamp 6x12 and there was a fairly noticeable difference in the top bit with the tweeters off.

If you're looking for hi-fi, you might seriously consider the fEarful cabs - making one, buying one from LDS, or finding one used.
Check the threads on them here.

You probably have seen this thread, but if you have 2x12 fever, you may want to give the new Bergantino a try~

Although a fEarful will almost certainly be cheaper even if you give it to a cab builder to make for you

My pref would be a pair of Epi UL2-212s. That's why Baskin Robbins makes all those flavors-everybody likes something different.

Definitely in favor of 412 vs 210 & 115

Definitely a fan of anything Bergantino (though I haven't tried his 212). I've currently got a NV412 and have had the 2x112 mini-stack before also. Awesome voicing!

I'll never buy anything from Epifani. Never, ever again.

Alexander....so, a comment like that cannot go without commentary...just curious why do you say that about Epi? Bad experience with customer service? Bad cabs? Defective? Poor voicing?
