4x15 transport.

Sign in to disble this ad
closing off my 4x15 for transport. It is open at the front. So I wanted to close it off with a vinyl covered plate. But I haven't figured out how I would close it.

I need some locks wich could be sinked into the wood. So when closed it can't damage other loaded items. Any ideas?

You can see it has a 5 cm deep slot into wich I can build the plate and a frame attached so it closes the front nicely.
I just don't know of any locks wich could be integrated wich would complement the build.

Maybe something like this?

Those are better, no fear of losing the key .

I'd use regular butterfly latches though.

I don't want to modify or damage this cabinet.

With these I would have to only create holes on the inside. So the lips can sink in the wood. Wich is minor damage. And could be easily restored. This cabinet is allready around 50 KG. So a flightcase around it would make it a deadweight.

CABINET LATCHES from Parts Express ship same day and come with 45 day money back guarantee. Free Shipping Available. Order free 10,000 product catalog.

Here you go.

Seriously though, I would just opt for a piece of plywood (or something else) with some cheap latches and something cool painted on it.

I don't see the need for a grill. The speakers are already covered, and I can't see how it would damage other equipment.

You could always transport it on it's face.

Velcro

Lots and lots of velcro. I cut a piece of plywood to cover the front of my rack 25 years ago and have never had a problem. Cut a 1" hole in the plywood so you can get a good grip to pull it off. I used way too much velcro (I was like 17) and it's HARD to get off.

+1 on the velcro. That won't come off by accident.

I'm with oerk. Maybe you meant to say the speakers/cab would be damaged by other stuff and got it mixed up.

At any rate, all you need to do is cut a piece of wood so it will precisely fit inside the inside edge of the cab. It looks like there's a "lip" around the inside there you could set it on. Then put some braces on the inside of the wood, "horizontally" (when the cab is standing upright), if you want it to be able to support a decent amount of weight. No need for any latches, although you should put a handle on the wood so you can pull it out (a small hole to pull out on would also work, but then stuff might fall inside).

If necessary you could even attach boards around the outside edge of the cover so that would it would on the outside edge of the cab, like a typical wooden crate.

This way, you would have a secure cover for the front of the cab without actually having to make any mods to the cabinet itself.

Honestly......

Cut a piece of plywood to fit, and get a couple of those heavy duty moving straps (used to tie heavy stuff down to other heavy stuff ) and put two of them around it.

Easy, cheap, and doesn't hurt it one bit.

That's all you need to do.

or take that same piece of wood (carefully sized to just fit inside the front lip of the cab) and cover it in rat fur; that will be enough to let it wedge in place and not fall out until you're ready to pull it out, which you'd do via a strap hanging out or a hole to grab it by or whatever.

lots of budget rack enclosures work this way.

Sunn made a 4x15 cabinet like that ... it was one of the best sounding cabinets I ever played through.

Why don't you just use a dustcover?? or a Flightcase??
