Pre/power setup of your choice
into Avatar 2x10 - two will do, but 4 if you want to be a bit over the top about it. Stand two on end on each side of the stage. |

Make that two Mesa Boogie PH112 if your drums or guitars are loud. |

2x12's will amaze you at how loud and how low they will get.
1x15 was industry-standard for 30 years.
The size of the speaker has a little to do with the overall dynamic range, but the size of the cab has even more to do with it. Quality parts might have even more to do with it.
My best suggestion is to play as many cabs as you can, and when one of them speaks to you, but that one. Then look to see if it is 2x10, 4x10, 1x12, 2x12, 1x12 + 1x10, 1x15, etc. Don't narrow your search before you start. To me, that is like saying you want a good cab that starts with letters K-S. You might be overlooking exactly what you want. |

I use an Ampeg 1x15 for my small rig and a Sunn 2x15 for my big rig. I don't use a five string, but one of my basses is tuned BEAD, so it has a low B. I generally go for a more mid-heavy tone, though, so I don't need a huge amount of deep extension. I've had good results from a rehearsal room 4x12 as well.

I'm very happy with how my 2 Mesa PH212's handle my B-string. My Bergantino and Aguilar speaker cabs do a fine job as well.

Flat response (or nearly flat response) at 31Hz is seldom ideal in a real-life gig scenario...I'm just sayin'.

I play BEADG five string and my cab of choice is a Bergantino NV610. It won't handle the lowest fundamentals, but the lowest notes sound fantastic. (There's a lot more to each note than its fundamental). |

It's more about voicing than just low end "noise" or "rumble". I have an Eden Nemesis 110 combo that can even handle my NS-5 at decent levels, and that's like 80W, so yeah. |

If you do want close to flat at 31Hz, even Acme's 1x10 (Low B-1) will do that!
