Can anyone recommend a 500 W or more combo amp, preferably on the lighter side? Something with maybe 2-12s, 4-8s, etc... |

| | | | Yeah, after reading the reviews on the GK MB212, I'm pretty convinced this is what I need. I'll be looking for one used on Craigslist, since new it lists for $700. Thanks, all. |

Thanks, all. | That, or you can watch the "Hot Deals" section here in TB and get one the next time GC or someone has a 20% off with free shipping. Usually someone posts there when that discount is available. I love mine and my back thanks me every time I lift it...and oh yeah, it sounds awesome....
Good luck |

Not many combo's, even with 2 12's, can actually handle that kind of wattage, and if you're thinking big wattage equals big volume, it doesn't. In fact, 250 watts through a 4x12 would likely be louder than 500 watts through a 2x12.

But, i was looking for the wattage/weight ratio in a combo and the MB 212 delivers for me. I don't play big venues, so it isn't a big deal for me. If I ever do, and they have PA support, I'll be fine with the MB 212. If not, then I would have to look at something else, but for me, i don't see that happening anytime soon.
It is all about needs, and having more than enough amp for what I play and being able to cart your bass and amp in one trip is a big + for me!
Cheers! |

Cheers! | A big +1 for me! I was a bit concerned about not having an external speaker out, but I've still got a Carvin B1500 head and a couple cabs if I need it. However, I'm in a classic rock band two guitars, bass & drums, we don't mike any of the instruments, so pretty loud stage volume. I just did my first gig with the MB212, outside to boot, and I had MORE than enough volume, tone & balls! Unbelievable amp, and so easy to cart around.
For me, this will be all I need, I'd never need to add more to it.... just don't smash it around, or drop it down a flight of stairs. |

I've done well over 30 gigs with mine...indoors, outdoors, rehearsals, loud jams....hasn't hiccuped.

1. Find an MB212 (they are starting to be available in stores).
2. Lift it, then play it.
3. You're done.
Plenty of threads here on TB to research, but this thing has redefined what a combo can do for me. |
