70's Ampeg 15'' speaker

Couple questions for anyone who could help please me out. This speaker is off a B15S combo amp from the mid 70's. I have the entire rig, but channel 1 doesn't work. I thought I would have it fixed, but now that's not gonna happen. I'd love to sell the entire thing, but no one here is interested and shipping the whole thing would cost allot, so I thought maybe the selling the speaker speaker separately to someone that would want it would be better?

1. Can anyone tell me what speaker this is?

2. Is it worth selling separately?, or would taking more time to find a buyer for the entire rig be smarter?

3. Your opinion on what its worth.

The speaker sounded great the last time tried it out, and it does have this small hole. I contacted a speaker repairman and he kinda acted like it was stupid to fix it I believe he quoted me around $40 to fix it.

Standard issue CTS square magnet speaker. Not really worth much unless it's to the right buyer (ie someone looking to restore their 70s ampeg). I'm guessing $40 is to repair the hole not recone, but OC speaker charged me I believe $65 plus shipping for a recone on mine.

There should be numbers on the basket. Three digits a dash and four or five more digits.

The only other mark is W5702 written on the back of the speaker. The $40 i believe was just for the hole fix. I guess I could ask him what a re-cone would be.

Thanks guys for the help, it's looking like I should just leave it all together and hopefully find a buyer for the whole thing.

That would be plan A and B IMHO.

A non-working B-15S isn't going to go for more than a few hundy, less if the condition is like that speaker. Since you're not going to fix it, I would sell it as is myself or fix the speaker properly with a recone. It's still the original speaker and it's still worth more with it, albiet how much value it adds in that shape might not be all that great

Not sure it was the EXACT same speaker, but an older square magnet Ampeg 15" was on CL not too long ago (no holes) for $30. If I didn't already have a couple EV's in the closet, I would've jumped on it (if it tested OK)!

Hmm how interesting would it be to gut and rebuild with original tubes/circuit???

Huh? Why not just get an original B-15 and not an S?

Yep. Dump everything but the output section and rebuild with octals. Hey I had my tube days Still have 3 of them glowing in my current rig .

Ok, wait...I guess I stated the model wrong. I thought the B-15N was the tube and the B-15S was the solid state. I see now that it is an SS. I apologize, I just want to get rid of this thing because I'm moving soon and already have enough gear.

Must be a BT-15 then. I think they're fixable and I've heard they sound good for SS, but I'd be way less inclined to spend real money on it since collector's value lags considerably compared to the tube amps.

I'm not sure, but I believe that Eminence was the sole component supplier for Ampeg in the 70s. I have 3 Ampeg 15s, 2 in an "Iso-Vent" cab, one sitting "spare" in a closet. I emailed Ampeg for the Thiele-Small specs so I could build a new enclosure, they were more than happy to comply.

Email Ampeg, they may have all the info you want.

In the 70's, CTS and Altec were also suppliers of speakers to Ampeg.
