70's SVT - To trade or not to trade, that is the question...

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm lucky enough to own 2 vintage SVT's in wonderful working condition. It seems every now and then the crazy idea pops into my head to use one as trade bait. I guess I'm asking does anyone else have a really great piece of gear that sometimes makes you think ...Uhmm,wonder what I could get for it? Is this normal? Should I seek professional help? Can I blame all my G.A.S. on this damned site? Is there hope? Can I ever go back home??

This is normal.

Besides, you have two of them. Don't be greedy.

I'll give you a Squier P and $5 for one of them. I'll even pick it up.

Trade trade trade.

It's fun.

It's really cool how new gear can bolster your creative process.

Be greedy. Or don't, it's really up to you. Either way, don't let GAS get the better of you. Or do. I'm not feeling helpful today.

Yea,my biggest fear is trading it for something that at the time seems really cool only to find out a week later the spark has died.

I wouldn't trade unless it's for something equally rare, but then again, it'd be wasteful to have an SVT and not play it.

the only thing more special than a vintage svt is a vintage b-15. and some would even argue that.

I'd say "seductive" instead of "special"... (though the flip-top design is definitely something special)

Back in the 70's we were rolling my SVT into a studio and the engineer came out and said you may not need that. Then he points over to this grungy B-15 and tells me they get excellent results with it. I thought he had to be joking...until I plugged into it. It was my first experience with one, hell I'd never seen one in person before then. Man what a killer tone I got with that thing!

I just want to clarify I'm not using this thread as fishing trip for a trade. I was just wondering does this crazy *ss idea ever happen to any of you.

Well, my personal opinion is that if I had 2 70's SVTs, I'd keep 'em both. I got rid of one (and its matching 810 fridge) once, I'll never do that again.

there are always times you might need a small ss rig. hell, i've even got one...used to be an lmii and/or a cmd121p, but now it's a modded tech 21 british pedal (soon to be a vt deluxe), crate power block and one of my b-15 extension cabs. but for 90% of my gigs, i can't stand to use anything else knowing i have an svt and a b-15n. the load-in/out takes a few minutes but some of my gigs last hours.
