Anybody know the bass viability of this cool-looking vintage head?

Univox 100-watt tube amp

Lots of info here >

The Univox Page

I own a 2-12 guitar combo thats pretty cool. I doesn't break up too much so it's probably good for bass even though I've never tried it as such. As with any newly
vintage tube amp, make sure you budget in the trip to a good repair man to have him look it over - or else....

Thats a 1511.

More or less an exact Clone of a Marshall Superbass.

Univox imported Marshall back in the day. I could go on if you really wanted.

Damn! In Oregon too... If I hadn't just dropped a ton on my son's wedding a few weeks ago, I'd be taking a road trip and making this mine...

I'm either missing something or have just been out-randomed.

I am a big fan of Univox equipment.Univox amplifiers are a lot better than anyone will give them credit for. If I say much more than that,I just sound crazy.

I no very little about them except that I own one and think it's an interesting amp. I had a chance to buy the rig that you see Jeff Beck using in those old photos (yes.. the ACTUAL rig!!!) which consisted of a few of 6-12's and a couple of heads. You would vomit if I told you how much they were selling for and I'm getting light headed just recalling the painful event. I have been toying with the idea of getting a reproduction cabinet made for the amp in my combo so I can use it as a stand alone bass head.
Oh and I forgot to mention that the first bass amp I ever owned was a little 2 knob Univox with a 1-15 cab. I found a cab a few years ago and snatched it up and I'm still looking for the head.

May I present to you 20 watts of beastly bass-

Here is a fine example of a Univox UB250 amplifier. These amps with their corresponding one fifteen cabinets were made between 1969 - 1978. This is a 1973 model. Note that Univox is printed in white over the fuse holder.Contrary to popular belief, these amplifiers were made in the USA, not in Japan. They are simple and reliable.Of the 150 or so UB250's I have purchased, only three were bought DOA. I wont say anymore, I don't want to sound crazy.....

Many years ago my wife bought me a UB250. It is a killer practice amp and it handles my 5 string admirabley. It is always set up in my living room for convenience. Back on the subject, I've heard great things about the 100 watt tube head but I've never had my hands on one.

Like I said, many of the Univox Tube heads are exact clones of Marshalls....

OK - lots of input, thank you! What about the asking price? While it may be a great amp, market-wise I'd think it's quite high for anything non-Fender/Ampeg/HiWatt/Sunn/Marshall/Acoustic. No judgment of the amps performance, just seems to me like a Univox is much more like a garbage-sale bargain rather than a museum piece.

Waddaya think?

Too much. Take off $200 and then you'd be good to go.

Otherwise you'll never re-sell it at that price.

You didn't have to say anything... a picture is worth a thousand words. You're truly insane. You actually collect the UB250's? Nothing surprises me anymore!

IIRC I had the one with the red logo FWIW. Come home to papa...

Practice amp? Heck I used to crank that sukka in our school gym for pep band. Both knobs on ten for 2 hours - it moved no air but at least it sounded bad...
