How can I rewire my cab to be 4 ohms? It's currently 8 and the head is either 2 or 4.

nope. not without new speakers. Best bet is to buy a new cab. Also, if you were running your SVT with an 8 ohm load, that would be a bad plan, too.

Not possible to do it for 4 ohms. May be possible to get 2 ohms if each speaker is 8 ohms.

Actually, in this case, you could probably re wire to 2Ω, if each driver is 8Ω and the cab is wired series parallel. You would just wire them all in parallel. Might sound like caca though, depending on how robust your drivers are and whether it has a real crossover or not. My psychic powers are a tad off this morning, I think.

Check the drivers, as others have posted if they are 8 ohm drivers you could rewire the cab to 2 ohms by putting them all in parallel.

The cab is a GK Backline 4x10. It's all I have. My other, better cab is too big to haul anywhere (a Peavey 4x12).

Impedence varies so greatly with each note you play, I've never really paid too much attention to it.

I know I might get flamed for all this, but I'm really curious if others have wrecked output transformers on tube heads due to impedence mismatch.

To address the OP: it would probably be wise to sell your 8 ohm GK 410 and use that to purchase two 8 ohm 2x10s. Daisy chain them to the 4 ohm tap on your SVT and you won't have any worries.

The GK isn't mine, it's borrowed from a friend who will, by all good reason, never want it back. I'd feel OK rewiring it, because like I said, I doubt he ever wants it back (the head to it is blown and has been under my couch for a year), but selling it... not so much. I own two cabs, a 2x10 Peavey that's set up with my Mesa M2000 and the Peavey 4x12, but the 4x12 will never fit... Anywhere I'd ever need it, I suspect.
