| | | | 8 Ohm Rackmount head thoughts

I am looking to purchase a rackmount setup which will be used to travel with instead of my Fender bassman pro 300 (too heavy and takes up to much room).
I have purchased a sansamp rbi and am looking to get a head which i can use for clean tones/poweramp and want something which can give me lots of headroom and still have a warm, thick tone. I am looking at the SVT7PRO and running it at 8ohms (600watts) but am noticing many swayed reviews, Does anyone have thoughts or comparisons on other amps? (I use an Orange OBC410 cab btw)
I have also considered getting a sansamp rpm and a power amp to run with the rbi, but still need plenty of power.
Hope to hear thoughts and ideas |

BUT, it seems like nowadays a 500-800W rig can be had in a micro amp format (i.e., Mark Bass, Genz Benz, Aguilar, etc.). You really don't need the rack rig anymore. You can get 500W amps that fit in your bass's gig bag for crying out loud!! A powerful micro (like the GB Streamliner 900) can fit in a backpack, music bag, carry-on, etc. If I was traveling, the last thing I would want is a rack. Racks rigs are expensive to ship via air travel if you are flying. Take up space if your road tripping. Im telling you, micro is the way to go.
edit, I see you are using an orange cab.....maybe you should look into the orange tiny bass terror 500. 500w in a compact format. |

| | | | Thanks man! appreciate the feedback! i am also considering the TC Electronics RH750? from what I have heard they sound great, have a pre amp output and are obviously very easy to carry around |

Whether a racked micro or a pre + light power amp, this sort of rig still has a use for regional (van-based) gigging. |

| | | | is the sansamp RBI gonna be the basis for your sound? if so, there's no need to buy a "bass amp" with a bunch of controls on it that are better bypassed by running the sansamp into the amp's effects return.
just get a lightweight power amp and call it done.

You just need a power amp.

| | | | The sansamp will be the basis of my tone for now, although in my band we are writing some clean sections which will need a clean bass tone, that is the only reason I am considering a head instead of a power amp, or possibly a power amp and running two rbis or a rbi and rpm
Thanks for the replies btw! |

| | | | Why? Sansamps sound great for clean, too.

Amazing features, versatile EQ and overall great sound IMO.
Genz Benz Streamliner, GK MB heads, Aguilar Tonehammer, Markbass etc...PLENTY of options now for a lot of tone and volume in a small package.
