800rb / 410XL: Speakers Pop at power-on

Hi,

I have a quick head/cab question... I just picked up an 800RB and am running it into a Hartke 410XL. Even w/the input volume, boost and 300w/master volume all the way down, when I power on the head, there's a small "pop"* noise, and the speakers visibly jump.

Is this normal? It doesn't seem so. Then again, this is my first non-combo. So I'm a fairly good mix of paranoid and ignorant.

As far as the actual set-up, I've done everything correct, as far as I know - I'm using speaker cable, not instrument cable, and am running it from one of the "low"/8-ohm outs into the 8-ohm (not extension) input on the cab.

Any insight appreciated.

(* = Not so much as a pop, as something similar to making the letter "P" sound forcefully.)

edit: I'll admit that I am curious - what causes that to happen?
