I imagine that a private individual could use a trucking service but you'd have to make sure that both pickup and delivery don't require a loading dock.
The store I worked at didn't have a loading dock, so we just loaded them off the truck onto the street.

Almost every delivery of larger gear I've had via Fedex or UPS has been scary - deliverymen rolling larger packages on the sidewalk instead of carrying them, etc. It seemed that the Old Dominion guy was used to handling much heavier and bulkier packages than mine, and was very careful bringing them off the truck.
My delivery was drop-shipped, so I had to take over once the packages were dropped off the back of the truck. I was prepared with a hand truck, so it was no big deal.
I've also heard that AmTrak will carry items from one station to another if you can find a train on the same line that stops close enough for the receiver to meet the train and claim the package. That was a long time ago though, don't know if they still do it. |

Most trucking lines offer discounts of 70-80% off of their published price to high volume shippers. Without that discount, you would pay through the nose. |

If you specify things like "Need a lift gate" or "No 18 wheelers" (We had a tricky parking lot/loading dock) they'll accommodate you. I have not used AmTrak but I know someone who uses it pretty regularly when he has to send big stuff cheap but it also takes longer compared to trucking.

An online furniture mover would probly be your best bet, but your still looking at several hundred dollars

The buyer wants it and said he'd pay to have it shipped so it doesn't matter to me how much really. Just wondering if fed ex would even take the thing. That being said, if the buyer wants the 8x10 then he should have no qualms about moving it around right?

If it isn't a rush you may be able to get them to toss it into another load [they frequently co-load] and slo-mo it to it's destination, or at least near enough for the buyer to pick it up.

It is usually more cost efficient just to buy a "brand new" 810 than to pay for a used one plus several hundred dollars shipping.
That's why they are usually just sold locally when used.

I believe 150 lbs is the cutoff for regular UPS/FedEx.

| | | | Fed Ex freight? Got a great price on E-bay for a dryer that was half way cross the continent, but Fedex freight is cheaper.
Buyer has to go to the freight hub and pickup, usually on a pallet, fork lifted to your pickup in the parking space.
Same as air freight companies.
Try to call ahead and ask if the buyer can bring metal band snips and leave the pallet in the parking lot. Thats what I did with my LDS monster cab that was air freighted to me. Open a Fedex account as the shipper, and the cost will be cheaper. |

^ Call these guys.
They're used to dealing with folks off the street, and their prices are reasonable because they only offer linehaul service. You will be required to bring the cab to them packed and ready to go (sometimes they'll help with the packing for a small fee). The buyer will also be required to pick up from the terminal.
Keep in mind that they run their trucks at absolute capacity. The cabinet WILL be stacked on. Pack it accordingly.

He had to ship using a trucking company. I think I paid $100 for shipping charges, and I imagine he got killed on his end covering the rest of the shipping costs. I dont' think he had planned out his sale very well.....

| | | | Don't know what the weight limit is, but I've shipped some rather large packages (1/4 scale r/c airplanes) by bus and they all made it just fine.

Biggest thing I have shipped is a full 88key weighted keyboard, but that is alot lighter than an 810. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
