After the advice of some fellow Talk bass members Ive decided to upgrade my cab.
I've found three used cabs that are all pretty good deals. An Ampeg SVT 810e, Ampeg SVT 610 and a SWR Megoliath 810.
I plan on playing each of them before I buy, but I would like some opinions on which is the highest quality cab and which sounds best. |

I haven't played the 610HLF or the Megoliath, but I have played the 410HLF which kicks a ton of but, and I've talked to a lot of 610HLF users who downsized (because of weight and transportation issues) from the 810 and loved the switch. It is a ported cab with a horn, though, whereas the 810 is sealed....just my .02 |

I just got myself one just over a week ago and man i could not be happier!! Loud, clean,punchy,warm...pretty well what ever you want from it it will give it to you...and WOW What a bottom end...she goes really Deep. Have not played a cab yet that has matched it as far as bottom end...it will truly Rock your World!! and as for transportation...she is a breeze thankx to the built in wheels, kick plate, skid bars, shower type handle bars on top and 2 flush mounted handles on the bottom....a real masterpiece of work both in Sound and transportation!!! cant say enough nice things about it i could keep going on but i think you get my drift...so yeah i am a 100% yes for the Megoliath!! All the Best.!! Cheers Mate!!~Elliot

You can't go wrong with either the Ampeg or SWR, but if it were me I would go SWR. You can get a bigger wider tone especially if you have a head w/dual power amps and use the crossover in the amp....this is a great feature.
Just my 1-1/2 cents. Good luck and have fun.

If you're looking for "old school" tone, the SVT810e is considered a standard for good reason...
If you like alot of low end, and clear highs, and plan to use alot of volume, the Megoliath is the clear choice...
Lastly, the SVT-610HLF is a crappy cab - probably the worst among today's production 610s...
*For me*, it's a no brainer - SWR all the way... Let's pus it this way, by turning off the horn, and using EQ, you could make the Megoliath sound like an Ampeg cab - but you can't make the Ampeg do many of the things you can get out of the SWR - and the SWR will take more abuse without blowing a driver... I play thru a Mesa PH810, but also wouldn't mind having a Megoliath - they're very, very good...
