8ohm to 4ohm

So I must be missing something. By everyone's schematics, there's no way I can make a 4x12 4ohm cab since everyone carries only 8ohm speakers. How is it that manufacturers can make one though? Is it wiring, or they have someone making 4ohm speakers for the specifically? Idk. Please fill me in. Thanks.

When you buy drivers by the hundred or the thousand, you can have them made to whatever spec you want.

Theoretically, but most 12" bass speakers are 8 ohm. Eminence has the Delta-12LFC which is 4 ohm, but whether or not that will work in the OP's cab is unknown.

I know it gets pricey, but Aguilar sells 12" 16 ohm replacement speakers on their website for $140 each. I think they're made by Eminence for Aguilar. This is the speaker they use for their 4X12 cabinet. So there are 16 ohm 12s out there.

Hi.

The last time I checked (quite a while ago), there was some 4 & 16 Ohm versions available from every manufacturer I checked.

Whether the price point or the model is to Your liking, that's a whole another ballgame.

Might be easier to switch the tap on the OT to 8Ohm and use the readily available drivers.

Regards
Sam

Wire 4 12" 16 ohms in parallel to get 4 ohms. I think thats right, correct me if I'm wrong.

theres a few 12" 16 ohms to select from here:

US SPEAKER - 12" Speakers - 12" bass speakers & 12" guitar speakers by Eminence Speaker, JBL, EV, RCF, Beyma, Peavey, Celestion, P.Audio, Ampeg, Crate, Jensen, Fane and Pyle. 12" bass speakers & 12" guitar speakers. Find the right 12" woofer here.

At that price point (actually at any price) it's probably better to just buy a new cab in the correct impedance rather than trying to fit off the shelf speakers to fit your cab's dimensions unless you're building from scratch.

With only 2.4mm xmax it's marginal as an electric bass driver. When confronted with the dearth of suitable drivers, and the poor form factor of a 4x12, the OP would be better off with a 2x15, if not a pair of 1x15.

One of the reasons why I love TB. Guess I'll be replacing speakers, but in a good way!

I just learned something, xmax = Voice Coil Overhang.
I'm assuming the higher the xmax the better for bass cabs?

Within reason. It's a balancing act. Large xmax will give you more abilities down low, but makes sacrifices in other areas.
