About to buy a Peavy vb-3

Well I read that a flat setting for the vb 3 is actually maxed mids. apparently the mid frequency selector works backwards then how a normal one would actually work, selecting the frequency of mids to cut since the vb 3 is cut only for mids.

Congrats on your purchase! You know, I wanted an SVT soooo bad until I heard and played a mesa boogie 400+. I bought the boogie. While still in you return grace period, i strongly recommend checking out the Fender super bassman 300. That amp has some serious balls, especially for the type of music you like. I just got one cuz my boogie is getting too old to take out. I love Peavey gear, but the VB's dont sound like tube amps to me, which makes them overpriced for what they are in my opinion. But maybe you will love yours!?

There is no Fender style tone stack in there. Flat is flat. Low and high are full active. Mid is quasi active, but still flat when centered.

The graphic eq changes everything in a really good way. I can make this head sound huge. I actually like the compressor on the vb 3 better then my mxr. It is very sensitive however I do notice I nicer tone with it compared to the mxr, probably because its tube driven. I will post a vid of everything I discovered sometime later

I wish I could find one of these to try out. It's not that I don't love my Mesa, as I do... but the Peavey is more powerful and lighter. And currently in production.

For sitting in a mix, the mid scoop will hurt you me thinks.

Yeah it might, I boosted the low mids, scooped the mid mids and boosted the high mids. That along with the sans amp should give me the cut I need. The thing that this amp gives me is the huge low end that I've never experienced before

You should try a Peavey tube head with a fEARful, ohfukme-this rig knocked your GF up lows.

IMHO Peavey has got their tube amps right. Sure it doesnt sound like a Fender, or Ampeg, or Mesa....Which is a good thing.

Well, it's just closer to the sound I use for my metal stuff.

I generally boost the annoying mids for my metal bands.
