Accugroove 112 Tweeter Issue

Sign in to disble this ad
So I have two Tri112's. I noticed an odd crackling at a show about a month ago. It was worrying me. Then it went away after soundcheck and warming up. So I kind of forgot about it. Today I was ABing two different amps and I just couldn't get the new amp to have that zing of my Thunderfunk.

In a random trial I AB'ed both Tri112's with just my Thunderfunk. It was the cab that was missing the zing, not the other amp. One of the Tri112 is majorly lacking in the high end. It still has the presence from the mid cone, but the sparkle is missing. So.....

I'm thinking either the tweeters are blown or there is a bad connection. I don't play crazy loud, and they are dome tweeters. I'd be surprised if I blew them. So anybody out there with more technical knowledge than I, how do I go about troubleshooting this?

How to tell if they are blown?
How do I even get to the connection to see if it is solid?
Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Zach

Pull the tweeter out the front and check it with a meter. If the sparkle is gone it's likely not working. Check the bulb fuse too. Do not use a 9v battery to test tweeters, it's too much for them. I have got away with using a 1.5v (AAA) for battery testing tweets but some say you shouldn't do that either. If the tweet and the bulb are both good the problem is in the crossover.

Accugroove cabs dosen't use bulbs they are self resetting. You might have a bad connection or tweeter.
E-mail Mark at Accugroove, see what he says.

Thanks for the replies thus far. I did email Mark. See when he gets back to me. I didn't think they used bulbs. I unfortunately don't have the tools to check everything myself I don't think. So I'm gonna bring it to my amp/speaker guy on Mon. Hopefully he can shed some light on the situation as well.
