Acme cab B2 blown fuse?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

So i picked up an acme cab used not too long ago. It has one unoriginal speaker replaced (thought i'd mention but probably not relevant since it sounds fine)...

I'm having some issues with the mid-range driver and the tweeter. when i turn them all the way down, the 10s sound fine, no distortion, perform as they should

...then i turn up only the tweeter, i start hearing a bit up fuzziness. i turn it off and then try just the midrange w/out the tweeter, i get the fuzziness again :/

could this be due to a blown fuse? possibly blown something?... there's no creases in the mid-range drive/cone

any advice/recommendations would extremely helpful.

If you have a non Acme 10" driver you should first replace it with the correct driver. They are unique.

There is a protection lamp on some Acmes while others have a self reseting fuse. In both cases if the protection is open neither the mid nor the high drivers will get any signal. If your mid is distorting you may well need to replace it.

It has the bulb inside, not the "poly switch" on the series II now...the replacement looks like eminence. I know andy's eminence speakers are unique but at the moment the 2x10's in there getting the job done (although eventually i'd like to get it replaced), just the mid and the tweeter are what worry me now.

are you saying the unoriginal 10 could possibly be causing a problem with the mid/tweeter?

No I'm saying that the non Acme woofer is throwing the tuning of the whole cabinet off. It will also be unable to match the Acme woofer in the lows. Thanks for the poly-switch identification. I just couldn't find the correct term. I hate gettin' old!

BTW all four of my B2s have the lamps. You could try a replacement lamp. It's cheap and possibly may have some bearing on the problem.

i've been reading up and it seems like its a good chance it's bulb that needs to be changed out. thank for the info on cab tuning! I'll have to save up for some replacements. unfortunately, for now they'll have to do.

You don't have to replace both just the non Acme woofer. Give Andy a call, he's always been more that generous with me. You may be surprised how little a proper replacement may be.

Replacement woofers are 70 bucks. I honestly would not even think of using my B2's with anything other than the real speakers.
