Acme series II bulb

Sign in to disble this ad
Gotta used Low B-4 and I am getting a slight distortion/crackle in the high/mid frequencies. I've read stuff on them, they say to change the bulb, which just so happens to be the same as the bulb in my S-10!!! I was just wondering if anybody could tell me the best way to do so. I figured I'll have to pull a 10"?!? I apologize ahead of time if u have gotten this question allot in the past

lotsa screws?

Get Andy (acme .com) on the phone. He answers
Think you are gonna be removing the grill and a woofer but I hope I am wrong. Every bass player should have a Makiita anyway.

Some Series II's use a bulb, others use a poly-switch of some type. What jack inputs are on the backside: 1/4", banana, Speakon or two Speakons?

It's got a 1/4", one speakon and the banana plug. I got a battery drill also. Should be pretty straight forward I'm guessing!! Nobody on here's that's actually done the change tho?

I changed mine in my B2 but, it didn't need it. I hadn't called Andy and thought my horn wasn't working....

Remove the grill and one 10, not sure which one though, so call Andy.

I doubt that will help. The bulb is just that, a bulb, and like those in your house they either work or don't. More likely the tweeter has a bad diaphragm.

Yes, that should have a bulb but, as Bill pointed out, it either works or it doesn't. Facing the cab, you remove the upper right-hand driver to access the crossover.

I emailed Andy and he said it def could have an effect on the sound of the drivers and that it should correct my problem. Can't hurt trying a couple dollar bulb before I get the tweeter...

I had the same problem with my B2. Crackling/distortion with the mid driver and tweeter. I changed out the Bulb(as Andy said to do), and the problem was fixed. Sounds great now!

So I finally go the time to try an fix the cab. Mine isn't the bulb style. It's a "retrofitted poly switch" any ideas on what that means and what I have to do to get it 100%??? I just spent over $325 on this cab and want it to work right! Kinda depressing....

Bypass the switch with a piece of wire, see if that cures it. If not the switch is not at fault.

Well I'm not exactly sure which component is the poly switch. There's a few things mounted on the plate, I'm just gonna have to call Andy and talk to him when I'm with the cabinet. It's at my rehearsal space and I'm limited on time I can go there due to work and school. I figured there would be someone that was an Acme user that had the same issue with a similar cabinet..

Got the mod done on the BBE and all is well! Sounds great! Now I just need a stronger power amp to get rid of the clipping...
