my first post on talkbass - thanks to all for the great info I've learned here so far, and to anyone willing to take time to respond to this post!
I'm looking to downsize my rig (Eden 4x10) and hopefully upgrade the sound quality as well. I play a lot of different styles from roots rock to funk to R&B, but don't necessarily care to have an "authentic" sound for any of those styles. Rather, I value clarity, being able to definitively hear the pitch of the bass note, and an even balance from low to high. I never scoop the mids, only add lows (40-60Hz) and highs (3k) when needed. So, full range and flat response are probably two of my main criteria.
It's been real interesting to read the Talkbass discussions about the Acme 112, as the size and weight would be pretty awesome (thinking of getting two of them). Folks here also seem to like the Aguilar 112, which has similar weight and form factor.
Super low extension is not a huge issue for me since I mainly play 4-string. I do want to be able to play loud when the drummer and guitar player start going crazy on me. Though, I'd say overall that my volume is fairly moderate.
I realize this is a tough question since the Acme has only been available for a few months, and not at all yet in full-range format. But, any thoughts about how the Acme and Aguilar compare to each other? Is the Aguilar flat over its response range, just minus the extra low extension? A bit off-topic, but does anyone know what kind of driver the Aguilar uses and how it compares to the Eminence Neo that Acme uses?
