Acoustic 150b

So I recently purchased a vintage Acoustic 150b as backup to my mesa400+ and love it so far. I would like to know how fellow TBers feel about it. In my opinion it is one of the loudest solid state amps I have heard, aside from a 370 I used to have. I have it hooked up right now to my mesa powerhouse 1000 and it gets unbelievably loud, even more so than my 1001rbII and neo 212 I had a few years back. It sounds very boomy and mid oriented, but with some tweaking it sounds very awesome. So far Ive used my stingray and with some tinkering of the EQ I get the tone in my head... I can't get that with the more modern amps I've tried, they dont make them like they used to...

They sure don't! I have an ACC 140 which is identical to your 150b, but it's from one generation after yours. I love the way it sounds, it's my main amp at this point in time and I don't see it changing for a looong time. I run it with a Peavey 1x18" (and soon my ACC 300 once I get it serviced, it's the power section of the 370) and the tone I get is wonderful. It sits perfectly in the band mix, there is so much warmth and punch in the sound that it makes me happy every time I play it. I compared my 140 to an SVT-3 Pro at the store one time, both amps through an Ampeg 8x10", and my 140 was just as loud and sounded better to my ears. Greatness on all fronts!

yup..got one.. extremely loud (& light!) for a 40 year old 125Watt amp...
very bright though..can distort if you push it a little ...i believe that it originally came with a 2x15 bottom...(153? 106?)
..but louder than the gk rb1001 ???!!.. easy there...lol
anywho,..acoustic 150b was pure proof, that clean & transparent, didn't have to mean sterile..

I agree about ACC....I carry a 370 as a backup and you are correct. It is the loudest SS amp I have EVER played through...

I grabbed mine for like $75.00...cleaned it up, retolexed it, new corners and bolts and got (basically) a brand new amp for like $200.00..

Can't beat that with a big stick!

Congrats on your find!!

i've had a few of them. sold the last mint one about 3 years ago. none of mine were anywhere near as loud (or powerful) as my GK 1001RBII. now my acoustic 320, that's another story.

I only used the gk1001rbII with a neo 212 most of the time... Thats probably it. You can never have too many basses or amps, if I get a good deal on a gk Ill probably buy it... I like their 800rbs over the 1001rbs though...
