Acoustic 2x15 (vintage)

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a Model 402 (I think?) 2x15 for Free! It's a long story...

Anyway, The top speaker is blown/ripping. It's still kicking, butt it has that annoying buzz sound.

Can any of you nerds recommend me the cheapest and most reliable speaker to pop in this thing? I know NOTHING about this ****, but this thing sounds better than most cabs i've played through. Is it going to **** up the lower speaker when I put a new top one in? I don't really want to change the sound.....

Now that I think about it. I don't think it's a 402 model... I gotta figure it out I guess.

I would admonish one to not go 'cheap' on a 15-inch driver - especially on such a valuable iconic unit.

Ya know that they don't make them any more - right?

Find out what the speaker is. Pop it out and check the label. What make/model. Then we can suggest a similar modern replacement. Or you'll know what one to buy off of eBay.

I ran one of those for years with a pair of EV Replacements in it. If memory serves, the original speakers were fairly low wattage. I blew them while running a SVT head through them. Slapped a pair of EV's in and never looked back.

it's probably a Eminence. if there is a "67-***" on it it is an eminence....prob a 2.5" vc. could replace it with a Eminence Delta 15 or Beta 15..

Take it to a speaker guy. He will identify it instantly and give you your options. I'm betting he can replace it for about $80 or fix it for about $80.

All these eminence speakers I'm pulling up are 8 ohms. I don't want 8 ohm speakers with a 4 ohm cab... right? Sorry I'm clueless.

Here's a photo from the 1980 Acoustic brochure of a 402 and a 406 for you to reference. Both are 2x15 cabs, but very different in their designs.

i would, unless replacing both speakers (w/newer eminence models), look for a replacement oldie/re cone of your original driver.

You want two 8 ohm speakers, wired in parallel, to achieve 4 ohms.

Pull both speakers and shoot a ton of pics, then post them here.

If the speakers match, and are good (correct for that box), you can probably recone the busted one. (for like $99, unless it's some crazy rare vintage driver.)

If the speakers don't match, or are wrong... figure out the internal volume (box dimensions) and post here hoping the WinISD squad will swoop in and tell you what to use. (probably Eminence Legends or 3015s).

---

We need pics and internal dimensions of the box.

2x15 cabs are boss.

You may already be familiar with this site. If not, you may find some useful info regarding speakers and reconing of the vintage drivers.
