Lightbulb Acoustic 360/361 for slap bass! Modded.

Sign in to disble this ad
When I read that the new Acoustic 360/361 had a hi freq horn it made me think, hmmm... Why not mine? The 360 rigs are great with fretless but that 18" Vega just doesn't cut it for slap bass or a Zon Hyperbass with piccolo strings! So here ya go. I used a horn from an SWR cab, a closed back 8" mid driver and an adjustable[by terminal selection] crossover, two L-pads. I also placed a Behringer MC200 tube preamp between the head and cabs internal power amp. All I can say is you would have to hear it to believe it. My second 360 is getting the same mods soon. My Whappo now has dust on it. What can I say. Here's pics.

interesting. don't know that i'd cut into the baffle of a 301 meant to pair up to the 360, but no doubt you gave it some extra range.

If you look at the pics, I didn't cut anything. It can all be removed with a phillips. Also, it is a 361 powered 200 watt bottom, not the passive 301.

That's pretty much how Acoustic should have made them in the first place.

The original amps were bi-amped and sounded quite modern with the right mid high driver box added.

ah, ok. for some reason i always call the 360's bottom a 301, too. anyway, yeah, pretty slick now that we know all you had to do was drill a couple screw holes on the outer edge.

Well i understand the Larry thing for sure, but these days most slappin, harmonix and poppin is done with lots of 10s, 12s, tweets. I found it an easy upgrade for under $200 that really works. I think Larry would've liked it.

There's actually a crossover in the output jack of the power amp in the "W" cabinet. I don't remember the frequency but I used two of those cabinets (one on each side) with an Acoustic 260 cabinet (2X15" Altec speakers plus radial horn) on top of each. For the time, when Shure Vocalmasters were the popular PA, it wasn't a bad set up.

Back in the day I had an acoustic 301 1x18 cab, a peavey head and a smaller cab to put on top. I ran a crossover between the 2 cabs. The whole stack was about 7 feet tall. Also getting the high frequency above head level made the high frequencies project. I didn't use it for slap bass ... I used it for my 4001 to project the Geddy tone.

Very nice I had heard of it as a concept... but I had not heard that they actually came to fruition. That's awesome. I'll have to do some research and see who's played one so far.

That would be a 360/361...I do not know if George Grexa has any for retail sale as of yet. There is a thread on TB that links to a pic of them. $5k if memory serves me well.

Supposedly....

ONE was sold to a TB'er who picked it up. That's been the only reference to the "New Acoustic USA" product rollout.

...anyone seen my unicorn????
