Acoustic 370 Bass Help (total bass newbie)

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Guys,

First post here. I recently started playing bass (normally a guitar player) and I am really enjoying it.

I'm looking to upgrade by amp and came across an Acoustic 370 head for $425. I'm waiting for pictures, but evidently, the seller keeps his stuff in top notch condition. I believe this amp has recovered tolex.

My question is, would this amp work well (through an Ampeg 8X10 and Ibanez SR800 4 string) for harder rock tones? Also, is the $425 price fair? Just searching ebay, etc, it seems that this is a pretty good price.

I don't know what year the amp is, but I've sent an inquiry.

Thanks!
John

Those are great heads. Check some stellar reviews for it here: Basses: 370 by Acoustic Control Corporation | Harmony Central

One of the loudest SS heads you will ever experience. Lots of famous bass players for great rock bands played with these. They also "break up" a lot better than most solid state heads to give you some good grit, and would work great with an Ampeg 810.

I've seen the heads go for cheaper, but if its in great shape $425 is a reasonable price.

Excellent price if its in top notch shape. I paid about 500$ here in the classifieds in january for one in good shape. Great head and it moves my 1000 watt mesa cab effortlessly.

i just when thru mine last week and i love it. mine is 100% original but i did one tiny mod so i could set the bias on it for optimum sound. BTW, my previous two didn't need the mod).

here's the mod (the blue trim pot is in the center of the pic):

IMO, is actually a decent price for a clean one with no issues. lately they've been going for $400-$500.

I have owned a 370 for many years. It currently serves as my backup. It is, hands down, the BEST SS amp I have ever owned. I play it from time to time to keep the cobwebs out and run it through either an 8X10 or a 6X10.

It sounds great!! If you go this route, you will be a happy camper!!! I would suggest that if you choose this, after you take delivery, take it to a qualified amp tech and let him give it the once over to check connections, solder points, etc.

Over the course of 40 years, they can loosen up!! Other than that, there isn't really much to worry about with the 370. Remember, they were built at a time BEFORE planned obsolescence....

Built like tanks.....and just as strong!!
