acoustic amps?

Sign in to disble this ad
I played a Acoustic B200 head through a B410 cab at guitar center and it sounded great and was really loud, but i dont know much about Acoustic other than John Paul Jones used them in the early 70's. Are they any good? do they last? what is awesome but also makes me nervous is you can buy this rig for $550.00 brand new!

Only the name is the same. The companies are not related.

The new Acoustic line in not like the original line. That said, it does seem to be good bang for the buck gear and has gotten positive reviews here. I personally have not heard of any reliability issues with the gear. Hopefully some new line Acoustic owners will chime in.

the new acoustic's and the old one's are different animals. The new b200h and 410 cab i is a pretty hard to beat rig for the money. there is an acoustic club on here do a search and youll get more info.

I bought the acoustic b200h and the 410s earlier this year and havent looked back, i really like the set up, and the 200 watts keeps up with a drummer and both guitarist mesa dual rec rigs, although i am thinking about getting another b200h and 115. only complaint is there is no built in compressor, some notes tend to be a little louder than others

In all the Acoustic gear I have - the only one that gave me trouble was the B-450. It has loose spade connex on the upper 10" driver and it sounded like the cone was shredded. I just soldered a pigtail pair on it and the problem has not come back.

The nicest thing about this product is that if you have any troubles with your Acoustic stuff, GC will take it back and immediately give you another unit if it's still under a service contract. The Acoustic gear is under the GC banner and it's their house brand now.

If I had it all to do over - I'd first get the B-600H and a B-410 cab to go with it. A little more $$ - but the head will drive anything Acoustic has (810, 115, 410) and have Watts to spare for a second cab too.

I currently still have that original B-450 210+horn cab and I drive the 810 and another 410 at the same time and I'm above the 2.0 Ohm lower limit. That gives me 14-10" drivers at 600 Watts.

The B-200H has a built-in Notch Filter that can take those boomer strings out, so you may not need a compressor at all. Just hit the note you want to dial-down and turn the Notch knob until it attenuates that note.

The B-600H and the B-450 (it has same head inside) have a provision to turn off the Notch Filter, which the B-200 cannot. Some people mistake the weak sounds they get out of the B-200 as a problem, when in reality they don't know how to adjust that Notch knob and they walk away disgusted.

You can find these B-200Hs & B-200s for cheap on CL for sale by someone who doesn't know what they're doing; their loss is your gain. Just smile and buy the unit.

Exactly...the two have absolutely nothing in common. Well, except for the name...but the original was "ACC" or Acoustic Control Corporation" out of Southern California and the "new" basically GC brand is out of China.

Vetchking posted some recent updates on the unofficial Acoustic forum a little while ago. Go check those out if you're interested.

And "this" company also has nothing to do with the original "Acoustic Control Corporation"

The amp design have nothing in common. Just cosmetic at best.

I just sold my Acoustic B200H for a hundred bucks in pristine condition - I had it for 2 years pumpin 2 - GK BLXII 115 cabs and it was adequate for most gigs, until we played outdoors where it just didn't have the punch I like. I liked the Acoustic head a lot with its 6 ban EQ and notch filter and it never gave me any trouble at all - very reliable.
It just lacked the added power I needed. I replaced it with a Markbass LM3 800 watt
head and 2 B410 Neo cabs from Avatar and it's the most fantastic setup I could ever want. Played outdoors last weekend and KILLED with it - It's like a Cannon! Before you buy speakers anywhere else, check out <www.avatarspeakers.com> you won't be sorry. And you'll be way ahead $$$-wise. The sound is tremendous and you'll have all the headroom and tone you'll ever need.

Err, no. The Acoustic USA company has Russ Allee (original engineer and designer of the 260/261, 320, etc) working on some reissues of the old ACC gear. There are other people that were involved in the original ACC working with Acoustic USA. It's GC's Acoustic Amplification that only uses the name and cosmetics to market their amps which have almost no relation to anything ACC.

the old Acoustics were all innovative for their time. Unusual configurations like powered speakers (360) with a preamp for a head. Or channel switching heads with built in distortion and graphic EQ, on a BASS amp!
These current crop are not only inrelated in design to the old ones, also unrelated in spirit. Quite the same as the lame rip off of the DeltaLab name. The deltalab GC brand has nothing to do with the guys that made the Effectrons back in the 80's. Too bad, loved those old boxes.

I'd say it's better than GK's Backline series. The B200 head sounds great. Reliability time will tell, but I've been ripping through my B20 combo for a combos weeks and have had no problems. I even gigged with it!

Er - No
It's already been pointed out several times by V-something that it's a whole new design.

Yep. New design by (supposedly) the same designer as the originals.

The new cabs have Eminence drivers and a tweeter. (Heresy!)
