Acoustic B10 extension cab?

Sign in to disble this ad
I currently do not have a bass amp. I use my brother's crappy peavey amp, and i don't like the amp's sound. I tried a B10 at the GC, and I like it. I am not currently in a band. I do intend to find a new one soon as a bassist. I don't have much money to spend on an amp, so I was thinking about getting a combo amp, then getting an extension cab later on. Can the B10 take an extension cab? If not, what combo can? I really wouldn't like to go much higher than 150 dollars. I play pop punk, stuff like blink-182. Can a combo even power one?

Sorry my man, no extension cab with a 10-watt amp! It's just for practice in your room. Tough to find something to expand with for $150, but the next Acoustic model, B20, is 20 watts, comes with a 12" driver, and can do a lower-level jam with your buddies. Should run ya between $100-150 at your local GC.

Hmm. Lower levels. I doubt that would happen. I found an acoustic B200H and B410 half stack for $350 used. Would that suffice for small bar-sized venues?

Have you considered used?

I did a quick search of the local used stores (Music Go Round) and found about 5 that would power an extension cab.

Including this Crate BX160 for $149.99 (just a random selection from the local Music Go Round in Denver where I live):

http://media.musicalplanet.com/pdf/CRA310.PDF

I think 160W with a 15" speaker would handle quite a bit without adding a cab.

I went used with my latest rig. The old stuff is heavier but you can get some great bargains at local shops.

I procured a great sounding Crate BX-440 and a Fender 2x10 cab for less than the cost of low watt combos new.

Some day I'll buy new, light, great gear. Some day I'll be rich. Some day...

If you have time, be patient and keep looking at the used gear sales. You can do better than the Acoustic rig for $350 if you're patient.

I have absolutely no idea what to look for.

Edit---

Ok, I want a bass rig to handle small gigs and bedroom practice. Pop punk pick playing (say that 3 times fast) with no slapping and minimal fingerstyle. Would like to keep it under 500 USD. Preferably used gear.

What Peavey is it? If it's powerful enough, I'd dump $150 into getting a preamp for it.

I don't have it with me at the moment, but it's a tiny amp. I want to say 138, but, it may be the 158. I will verify tomorrow. Can you explain preamps to me?

I had a Peavey Windsor tube head($249 new, REALLY cheap used) and bought a Peavey 2x15 for $120(around it) and spent $150 on brand new Eminence speakers for it. I gigged with that for a good while, so I still think Peavey is worth a mention.

It is the 126. Peavey is definitely not out of the picture. I have a Vypyr 30w for guitar right now. What if i got the Acoustic B200 combo, and did a preamp with it. What will that do? Still need a preamp explanation, cause:

I'm not a scientist. An amp has a preamp and a power amp. A preamp is what allows you dial in and fine tune your sound. Next your amps signal travels from the preamp to the power amp where it's amplified.

It sounds like your Peavey amp is small. By chance it was loud enough to handle your gig a preamp may allow you to get a tone more to your liking.

The Acoustic B200 looks like a more gig ready amp.

Yes. It is tiny. It's barely suitable to practice on. Definitely not gig worthy. Not even JAM worthy.
Peavey MAX 126 Bass Practice Combo and more Bass Amplifiers at GuitarCenter.com.
I have found an a B200 combo for $200. I also found a B200H head with the matching 4x10 for $350. I currently have very little money. Just got VIP tickets to my favorite band and bought a bass. Gonna take a little to accumulate the money. I plan on heading to a few pawn shops to see what they have. I hear of some pretty great deals in those shops.

I would be patient, maybe save up a bit more and skip the Acoustic stuff. Their amps are ok but the speakers are terrible in my experience.

I found a used Avatar 2x10. $160. I hear an ashdown mag head sounds good with these?

What about the B200H head? How will that be with the avatar?

Avatar 210 is a great purchase. Huge improvement over what you currently have and something that can get you loud enough in practice. As for the head, get the one that sounds best to you.
