Acoustic B100 $150 on sale @ GC, Question?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Folks,

The Acoustic B100 is on sale at GC
for $150.

I ordered one today. Shipping is free,
but I had to pay taxes. That made it
$163. 50.

I need one to replace my practice
amp that is fried but speaker seems
OK. It is a 12" JBL 8ohm speaker
rated over 100 watts.

The B100 is rated at 100 watts @
4ohm.

Question;

If I go from the "External Speaker"
on the B100 to the 8ohm cab,
will it work? Or will the load be too
low?

Anyone tried this?

Sorry if this has been posted.

Feel free to delete post if needed.

I tried to use the Black Friday 15%
discount but it wouldn't work.

It seems to be online only. I went to
GC store and they wanted $270 for
the B100. Then I could use my 15%
discound. No thanks. The list price
is $499.

Nobody? From what I have read the GC Acoustic combos use a series connection for extension speaker jacks, so you should have no problem.

Not quite sure about using an extension cab. But be careful pushing that amp, the speakers are pretty poor. They are a good bedroom practice amp, but It couldn't handle band practice.

Thanks for the advice.

I am using it for a living room amp.
I have a B20 for my bedroom. The
B20 is too small for the living room.
All I need is headroom. I don't in-
tend to push the amp.

I have yet to find it anywhere but
it seems to me that the minimum
load of the B100 is 2 ohm.

So 4 ohm + 8ohm = 2.6 ohm. There-
for I should be OK.

If I hooked up another 4 ohm speaker,
the load should be 2 ohm.

That would make sense to me. That
way you would be alright using a 8
or a 4 ohm extension speaker.

Now, wouldn't reducing the load
increase the wattage output?

If so, how much?

Depends on the design, usually 30 to 40% but your bigger gain is from the increase in speaker area than raw wattage. Some amps actually de-rate with 2 ohm loads.

I've hooked both(one at a time, mind you...) a Fender Rumble 4x10 cab @ 4ohms & a PV Headliner 15" cab @ 8ohms to my drummers Kustom B200 15" Combo; almost the same amp, expect for wattage.

Not any real volume increase (using the human ear)with either setup, but the two 15's together was extremely full sounding, and the 4x10 sounded crisper. The 4x10 actually seemed to have less headroom.

Series wiring (like the ex-outs on Kustoms & Acoustics)is not really going to allow for more volume with an external; from what I've gleaned from info here @ TB. But more air being moved will change your listening experience.

Thanks.

That makes sense to me and
seems like experiences I have
had in the past.

Anyway, I think this is going
to be a decent living room
setup. A place where others
join in on small guitar amps
or just acoustic. Nothing
with high output.

I just need a little headroom,
not much. The B20 only works
in my bedroom and my other
small combo fried the head.
Now it's just a speaker cab.

Thanks again,

Tabdog

Tabdog - I have the same amp. Got it last Wednesday at one of the local GC here in town. Have to say it surprised the manager big time on the price.

It took less than 10 minutes to dial in my tone. I play C&W so clean is my style, pretty flat.

As far a volume, it rattles windows in the house fairly nice at 1/4 gain and 1/3 volume.

I hope it works well for you, I feel is going to work very well for me.

Thanks BeJay.

I'm old school.

That helps to have your opinion. I like C&W
and clean and flat with a decent bass. But
I like to rattle the windows just a little.

Our big amp causes the acoustic stuff on
the ceiling to start falling off. I had to
stop using that setup.

Happy plukin,

Tabdog

Tabdog: I've had my B100 for over a year. It is a series Jack for the cab. Internal driver is 4ohms. Adding an 8 is fine...that's the way it's designed. I've played it with my 8ohm B210NEO cab...you lose Watts but gain fullness & a little volume because of more speaker area, and you have to push it a little more. I play (without the cab) mainly in a 500-700 seat church with about 30 ft ceiling, balcony, against 2-3 d.i. acoustics, a loud keyboard, various drums, & 3-7 vocalists with no problem. Hope you like yours. :-)

Here is a link to the online PDF of the owner's manual. On page 11 it clearly states the internal speaker is 4 ohms and the external jack is in series. And the schematic picture shows that. Look at the bottom left of page 11.

Correct, 4 ohm internal spkr, and ext jack is wired series. So, adding an 8 ohm ext cab yeilds a 12 ohm load, therefore reducing the wattage from the amp. You gain a little by adding the extra spkr, but lose some with the reduced wattage.

I got mine on black Friday. GC didn't want to use the 15% black Friday coupon so I had them throw in a guitar cable. When they rang it up, the coupon was automatically added. I got mine for $138. out the door!!!! I'm stoked.
