Acoustic B100 or Ampeg BA112

I can get both used for around the price of $150, but which would go better. Acoustic seems to be the obvious choice with 100w, but the Ampeg costs more if bought new, with only 50w.

What I'd really like is a good tone, more than how loud it could be, don't plan on gigging anytime soon. This would be my 2nd bass, as i'm still using a Fender Rumble 15

I have no experience with the Ampeg, but its still the one I would choose. The Acoustic sounds ok but the speaker is junk

I heard an Acoustic B450 over the weekend and it was a thumping machine, sounded great. It has alot more power than the B100 but based on my ears I'd be inclined to go that way. The obvious question is, can you play through them and then decide?

no local guitar shops have either model amp, so trying them myself is out of the question. Just want some input from other people who know about how good either of these amps are

I wanted to get an amp for practicing here at home so I tried the Ampeg BA112. Nothing against Ampeg but I tried 3 of the 112's and everyone one sounded pretty bad. Each one rattled and buzzed...at low volumes. Maybe it was a bad batch. I haven't tried any Acoustic equipment.

I owned the Ampeg BA112 and it's a cool little combo with a nice tone. It won't hang in there with a band though should you go that route in the future.

Ampeg

I actually have the Ampeg. I have had several different small combo amps for practice...so far this is the only one I have kept. You can get a lot of nice tones out of the amp for a small combo, plus the angled back on the Ampeg makes it nice to kickback and use as a monitor.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of the amps. Best of luck! Keep us all posted on which direction you go.

I had the BA112 for 6 months. Great tone but lacks power (if you play with a drummer).

If your purpose is home only practice, this amp is great (IMO).

By the way, I got rid of it and got the ampeg B-100R and I'm in heaven...

The B-100R is superb. I also owned this combo and liked it so much I bought a second one Perhaps my favorite combo of all time.

I realy love Acoustic!!!! That being said, both amps should work for what you need.
Ive owned Ampeg , and am currently Playing through a (LARGE) Acoustic , and got rid of the Ampeg. wish I still had my old Ampeg though, not that my Acoustic is not perfect for me, it's just it was an old tube head with a 1x18 cab .

At 50 and 100 watts respectively, neither one will have enough power for gigging with a band but, you MIGHT stand a chance with the Acoustic if it's not too loud. At only 50 watts, the Ampeg will get buried but, for a practice amp at home, the tone will be better.
