Acoustic b200 clipping

Sign in to disble this ad
I was playing a basketball game gig tonight and I looked back at my amp and the red led was flashing. I turned down immediately and after the song I turned the ground lift to the down position and it didn't "clip" again. But my bass did cut out in the middle of a song. I just replaced the battery in my bass so tomorrow I will play around some and see if that was a problem.

But anyways. What is "clipping" and is it harmful to the speaker? I'm a noob with larger amps...

Btw the volume and gain knobs were at half and my bass was at about 3/4 volume.

It just means that you were hitting the preamp with a lot of power, but it is OK to do and it is just a way of getting a nice overdrive out of them .

Mine does the same thing if I push it. You aren't getting it from the Volume, but the Gain.

You running that active guitar in the active jack?

Okay cool. Thanks!

I just don't wanna blow a speaker in a pretty much new amp:P I'll turn the gain down and volume up.

And yeah I make sure to use the active input on the amp.

Even if you are NOT hitting that light, you can still distress a driver with too much Volume or too much Low Freq.

The clipping light is really between the pre-amp and the final amp, not telling you that the driver is in trouble.

FWIW: most amps can seriously overdrive any speaker and cause it to fart by traveling too far and hitting the limits of the linear motor that moves the cone.

TOO much Volume + TOO much Low EQ = loss of magic smoke.
